📣 Double-Digit Growth in Italian Conference Tourism The latest Italian survey of #Conferences and #Events, conducted by Federcongressi&eventi and ASERI at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, reports a robust season for #Italy's #conference #tourism. In 2023, Italy hosted 340,057 events, a 12% increase from 2022. Delegate numbers rose by 28% to 27,152,890, with total attendance reaching 41,835,932—a 31.9% increase. ✒ Key Insights: - Event Locations: 59% in Northern Italy, 24.7% in Central Italy, 10.2% in the South, and 6.1% on the Islands. - Venue Preferences: 77.8% of events were held in conference #hotels, with significant growth seen in #conference #centres and #trade #fair #venues. - Organisers: Companies organised 66.3% of events, while #associations accounted for 22.3%. Federcongressi&eventi President Gabriella Gentile noted the industry's shift towards #high-quality events and advanced venues, driving organisers to explore new locations and promoting regional diversity. The conference identified essential needs for ocean science infrastructure including monitoring marine pollution, observing the ocean, standardising oceanic data, and employing advanced technology to ensure equitable production, accessibility, and utilisation of observations, data, and knowledge for addressing all challenges of the Ocean Decade, by all nations. An important outcome of the UN Ocean Decade #OceanDecade24 conference has the Barcelona Statement, which identifies three sets of priorities that we really need to support: - ocean knowledge generation - improved infrastructure for ocean observations - co-designing initiatives and knowledge systems that allow ocean obs to deliver societal value. It cannot be over emphasised how critical it is that we not only sustain but grow the ocean observing and science to deliver what society needs. Otherwise we, and perhaps more importantly future generations, will never have the ocean we want. And if we don't have the ocean we want our planet, and our people, will suffer.

What an important subject. Will be interesting to see the recommendations and follow the work of the Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expression on this topic.

The reconnaissance of valuable intangible cultural practices recognized by UNESCO is unique, particularly highlighting the cultural potential of the night 🌃 Opportunities for future exploration could include addressing light pollution and examining non-human factors that shape the urban night—like their smell, sound, motion, and interactions between species and physical environment. Not to mention the reception of the arts while the others go to bed. Additionally, future inquiries could consider participation in nighttime cultural activities concerning age, gender, economic status and audience development policies. It's exciting to anticipate such intriguing initiatives as 24HourNation, Cities After Dark by URBACT.
