An interesting article from Rahim Somani, EdD, CPA, CA, CPHR, FCA, FCMA at University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), on the need for universities to showcase #innovation, commit to long-term #sustainability, and redefine their core #mission in order to secure their #resilient future. Two important points stood out to me: (1) "By adopting a mindset akin to innovative and forward-thinking organisations, universities can become centres of experimentation and learning, committed to addressing real-world challenges and enhancing community well-being. Institutions that embrace this shift will be better positioned to demonstrate their worth, not only through academic contributions but by acting as active, adaptable and engaged community partners." (2) "Universities are not immune to the intersecting revolutions reshaping the world. To remain relevant, they must shift from reactive funding requests to proactive transformation. By embracing a model that values experimentation, sustainable impact and adaptability, post-secondary institutions can prove indispensable in a changing landscape. The world needs universities that educate and innovate – and that continuously redefine themselves in the process." Real-world challenges, community-engaged partners, adaptability, innovation, and intersecting revolutions --- all themes echoed in my own writing (www.davidvrosowsky.com). Now more than ever - and perhaps finally and long overdue - it's time for #highered's own revolution to be added to the mix.

Universities face a range of challenges today that impact on their operations, student experiences, and long-term sustainability. Leadership and personal development training for senior staff inside universities can help overcome some of these risks, ensuring institutions continue to attract the best students. Issues include: 1. Funding and Financial Sustainability: Fluctuating funding sources, including reduced government support, declining enrolments, and pressure to keep tuition affordable whilst maintaining quality. Balancing budgets whilst investing in infrastructure and technology is a significant challenge. 2. Access and Affordability: Higher education costs have been rising, making it harder for students from lower-income backgrounds to attend and complete their degrees. Universities need to make education more accessible and affordable whilst managing their financial constraints. 3. Student Mental Health: There is growing concern about the mental health and well-being of students. Adequate mental health services and support systems are essential to help students manage stress, anxiety, and other issues. 4. Technological Integration: Rapid advancements in technology require universities to continually adapt their teaching methods, infrastructure, and administrative systems. New technologies must enhance rather than disrupt the educational experience and are complex. 5. Changing Workforce Needs: The job market is evolving, and universities must adapt their curricula to ensure graduates have the skills and knowledge needed for current and future job markets; including more practical experience and addressing skills gaps. 6. Diversity and Inclusion: Diverse and inclusive environments for students, faculty, and staff is a major focus. Universities are working on creating equitable opportunities and addressing systemic inequalities within their institutions. 7. Globalisation and Internationalisation: As education becomes more globalised, universities are navigating the challenges of international partnerships, student mobility, and competition with institutions worldwide. Balancing local and global priorities is important. 8. Research Funding and Relevance: Securing research funding and ensuring that research efforts are relevant and impactful can be difficult. Universities need to align research activities with societal needs and demonstrate the value of their work to attract funding. 9. Governance and Leadership: Effective governance and leadership are crucial for navigating the complex landscape of higher education. Universities need strong leadership to address these challenges and make strategic decisions in a rapidly changing environment. Pleased to share an initial Birkbeck, University of London response to the Universities UK 'blueprint for change' Priority asks which we'll be pushing - - Government must look at the potential of a graduate contribution as opposed to a loan system. - The growing regulatory burden is in danger of stifling innovation, and time and thought is needed to ensure that the Office for Students operates in a proportionate manner informed by risk. - There is also a need to build funding and regulatory arrangements that support, rather than penalise, flexibility and lifelong learning. It is imperative that gaps that impede progression between different funding and regulatory regimes under which adults can access education and skills are eradicated.

Demographic transition kinetics doesn't map with Higher Education transformation kinetics and hence we are not resilient with changing context. Education is progressively being delocalized, we look forward to outcome based and impactful models
