Only 1 day left until the Women in Tech Summer Forum, and part of the ALG Legal team and I will also be participating in this event. Specifically, our Head of Labor Practice and Legalization, Yulia Kniaz, will be speaking on a major anti-trend in the IT industry — "How to Protect Yourself During Layoffs: Rights and Nuances of Layoffs from IT Companies in Poland." 🎤 In the first weeks of 2024, 📉 nearly 160 IT companies laid off more than 41,000 employees, including giants like Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google (according to the Layoffs portal). The reasons for layoffs vary: from cost-cutting to business restructuring and focusing on fast-growing areas. For example, Google is laying off employees to invest in priority projects like AI Gemini. Microsoft cut 1,900 employees in the gaming division to develop🤖 AI and ☁️ cloud services. Tomorrow, the Women in Tech Summer Forum will bring together leading professionals to discuss current issues related to inclusion and diversity in the industry. According to modest estimates from the organizers, as of yesterday, there were over 250+ registrations ( ‼ ) for the event. 👥The event includes panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions. 📰 Diversity in Tech 📰 "Mr Burgundy I highly doubt my network is concerned about the lack of an old, old wooden ship...." 😂 📙 I've heard about a lot of firms really struggling with attracting strength in depth when it comes to diversity. 📙Eg. I've heard some firms have <5% or even less female hires which is quite mad when you think about it! 💭 My question on this is do you think it's a hiring problem? ie its not a priority for some firms in the Tech industry Or 💭Is it an overall lack of females being attracted to the Tech industry in the first place? ie less appealing for females at university, school etc. Therefore creating an uneven split of Male to Female talent to choose from down the line. Interested to hear some thoughts... 🤔

Women, stop saying no to yourself. Research shows that women often wait until they meet 100% of the criteria before applying for a job, while men apply when they meet just 60-70%. Here’s the truth: you don’t need to tick every box. Of course, don’t apply for roles you’re completely unqualified for - but if you’re close, don't disqualify yourself.
