Survivors of human trafficking often escape with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Finding a safe and trusted place to stay is the first step toward rebuilding their lives. Tomas Lares has worked with the state of Florida to develop the nation’s first certification standards to open a safe house, ensuring survivors have access to safe and secure housing. This month alone, several lives were transformed as survivors found hope and stability through these certified programs. Learn how you can help at StopHumanTrafficking.com!

It's more common now than ever that you may see or encounter an individual or family that is homeless. These past two years I've meet with more working homeless folks than I've seen in the past. Housing and day to day living is expensive. As the weather gets warmer, you may see an increase of folks in our area because of shelters having different schedules during summer. The officers I work with do a great job maintaining order, preventing illegal activities, enforcing laws and protecting our community. Yet, there are many instances where Law Enforcement is not needed. I've attached a nice reference guide because there are local community resources available that can be utilized if no laws are being broken. Page two is specific and a great example of who you or your company should call or email to assist the folks that may be struggling. Check this resource guide out and feel free to share.

People who have experienced family violence often must leave their homes to find safety. That may mean moving into a secure shelter like Discovery House where they can heal and begin to rebuild their lives. The Residential Tenancies (Safer Spaces for Victims of Domestic Violence) Act allows for those who have experienced family violence to end a residential tenancy agreement without financial penalty. This helps families to focus on healing rather than the financial pressure that comes from ending a rental agreement. Learn more and find other supports: https://lnkd.in/gnxxRCDQ

One question we get asked often is, “What does a safehouse do exactly?” Safehouses provide transitional housing for survivors rescued from human trafficking. They serve several important roles in the healing journey. This includes: · Protection and Security: Safehouses provide a secure environment for victims/survivors of human trafficking. The location is kept secret to ensure their safety. · Shelter: They offer trauma-informed management accommodation and a safe solution for the survivors. · Support Services: Safehouses often provide access to support services, including legal assistance, medical care, counseling, and social services to help individuals recover, plan their next steps and reintegration. · Confidentiality: The operations and locations of safehouses are highly confidential to protect the identities and safety of the people using them. Knowing that safehouses are secure facilities with resources designed to support those in need may be vital information to someone wondering if legitimate help is available. Please share and follow MeCAHT to become more educated on the global crisis of human trafficking.

We need to change the way we talk about safeguarding. It's isn't just a piece of innocuous jargon - #safeguarding concerns can break up families. If you grew up in the UK you probably know this already. Watch the video to find out what happens when parents from outside the UK don't REALLY understand safeguarding. Can we stop assuming the whole world understands safeguarding, and start being more explicit? (While we're at it, let's do the same for all jargon.) Day 12 of 16 Days of Activism : The Power of Practical Support Escaping abuse isn’t just about courage—it’s also about having the right tools and resources. For survivors, practical support can mean the difference between staying in danger and finding safety. Our video today highlights the essential steps support workers take to empower survivors, including: - Emergency Planning : Creating a tailored safety plan to guide survivors in critical moments. - Digital Safety : Assisting with changing phone settings, securing social media accounts, and protecting personal information. - Navigating the Legal System: Offering guidance on accessing court orders, child custody arrangements, and understanding rights. - Building a Future : Connecting survivors to resources like housing, financial advice, and emotional support. These actions may seem small, but they create a lifeline for those living in fear. Each step brings survivors closer to a life free from abuse. We’re proud of our support workers who dedicate themselves to making this possible. Together, we can create a world where every survivor is empowered to rebuild and thrive. #16DaysOfActivism #PracticalSupport #EndDomesticAbuse #SafetyPlanning #PathwayProject #SupportForSurvivors Sam Booth Wendy Dee Lynn Laughton Djemillah Mourade-Peerbux
