Peace starts with the inner peace of individuals, which means not harming oneself or others. It manifests in various forms, beginning with acceptance of others and progressing to peaceful coexistence, the rejection of violence, conflict resolution, reconciliation, and a belief in equality and social justice. On this International Day of Peace, I hope that peace is not merely a dream in the minds of people or just words taught in schools and universities. I wish for the concept of peace not to be reduced to ineffective international agreements or fictitious negotiations that merely buy time. Let us aspire for peace to be a tangible reality and a genuine opportunity for development and stability in my country and all nations suffering from conflicts and wars, including those grappling with forms of oppression such as racism.
