What an incredible time at #BioEuropeSpring in Barcelona! 🎉 This year, I decided to take a step back from one-to-one meetings and fully embrace the conference buzz. It was amazing to meet new people and catch up with old friends around the booths for a coffee or a drink. I was also fortunate enough to be part of the opening panel discussion, and here are some key takeaways: 🚀 Despite the challenging times and a dip in Series A investments in 2023, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking! It's inspiring to see more scientists venturing into the startup world. 💡 Venture capitalists are increasingly involved in company creation. Don't hesitate to connect with us and have conversations about your technologies. We may offer valuable advice and insights. 🤝 Building long-term relationships with VCs and Pharma is crucial, especially for scientific founders and CEOs. Remember, a "no" doesn't mean it's the end. Show progress and keep delivering to keep the conversation going. Can't wait to see where these connections and experiences take me next! About a year ago, I was faced with a familiar choice: academia or industry? In science, it often feels like those are the only two options. You either get a PhD continue your academic journey, or you trade in your lab coat for a suit...🥼👔 And after the PhD? The most common options are a postdoc or a transition to the private sector.🔬💼 But what if I told you there's another option? ✨ 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 ✨ Stepping outside of your comfort zone is challenging, but not impossible. Especially in science. If you have an idea, a vision, and the passion to make a difference, I encourage you to take the leap and start your own venture. 🚀 About a year ago, I decided to do just that. Why? 🔸 I want to change the scientific landscape in Catalonia and Spain. 🔸 I want to foster partnerships between companies and research groups. 🔸 I want to provide opportunities for PhD students who are looking to connect with industry. 🔹 And most importantly, I want to empower those who have chosen to become science entrepreneurs. That's why we created Back2Lab. If you're still wondering what we do, follow us! ⬇️ #entrepreneurship #science #knowledgetransfer #innovation #spinoff #startup #phd #partnerships #back2lab #innovationsupport

What would you do if you found out the person sitting next to you built a $17 billion company? And what if it was a healthcare company? And what if HE was the one who you to dinner? That was the kind of night we had at the launch of The Outcomes Magazine at the Churchill at Tanglin Club here in Singapore. This post welcomes you to the table with researchers, innovators, and bold thinkers sharing stories and insights that could transform the way we approach entrepreneurship, innovation, and education in healthcare. Here are just a few lessons we took away from the evening, thanks to Professor Climax, a self-made Singaporean-born entrepreneur: 1️⃣ Filing a Patent while protecting your innovation Professor Climax shared invaluable advice on navigating the patent process, emphasizing how securing your ideas strategically sets the stage for long-term success. Folks who try to copy our patents from here on out will have a hell-of-a hard time replicating. mwuahahahahaha 2️⃣ Betting on Yourself as an Entrepreneur When VC or PE funding wasn’t an option, he did what many wouldn’t dare— he put his own house up as collateral to fund his vision. His story is a testament to the resilience and courage it takes to bet on yourself and your ideas. You wanna ask an investor for money? Ask yourself first if you REALLY believe in your vision, "What resources can you leverage? Are you willing to PUT EVERY CENT into it?" 3️⃣ Disrupting education means real-world change from the inside out He passionately spoke about the need to disrupt education by empowering leaders with real-world experience to bring change from the inside of academia like the work he is doing with at the University of Oxford. These are the people who understand the challenges on the ground and are driven to make a difference. This evening reminded me why I do what I do: connecting the brightest minds and fostering conversations that make an impact. With the magazine and IRL. Not only that, but he offered to invest in one of the founders there too…we’ll all have to hold him to his word. 🤠 To everyone seated at the table for accepting my invitation on the behalf of Prof. Climax , thank you for bringing your energy and unique perspectives. Dr. Anand Jeyasekharan - clinician-scientist and assistant professor at the NUS Centre for Cancer Research (N2CR) Keith Mun Keat Chong, PhD, MBA - Founder of UroMedTech Pte Ltd & brilliant innovator Deepa Balji - another master connector to push forward great thinkers and doers with a passion for using skillsets for non-profits. @CW Lim - mechanical engineer involved in green initiatives and neuroscience. A little crazy how majority of the dinner table was either employed by National University of Singapore or an alumni. Together, we’re creating something truly special in Singapore and Beyond. What’s the boldest bet you’ve ever made on yourself? Let’s hear your story! #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #DisruptEducation
