At #ASCO24, Bailey Nelson, MD, and team submit findings on the impact of whole pelvis radiation therapy (WPRT) on gut microbiota and chronic GI toxicity. The study highlights that patients with higher levels of Akkermansia muciniphila, a mucin-degrading bacteria, experience milder GI symptoms post-radiation.
