ASERF is now The Aesthetic Foundation! The aim of this study was to retrospectively and comprehensively analyze all grants awarded by The Aesthetic Foundation since its early beginnings in 1992, to present day 2022. Over 30 years, the Foundation has awarded over 3.9 million dollars across 130 grants. Ultimately, the authors hope to better comprehend the influence of Foundation-funded research on the APS field and, consequently, pinpoint potential areas of improvement and avenues for future exploration. How many horrendous conference posters have you seen? Either they say nothing (lots of pictures with no clear point) or too much (dense impenetrable blocks of passive voice text with no clear point). Many PIs I work with are gearing up for the 2024 conference season, where they disseminate the results of our work together in papers and posters. KDD'24 proceedings have been out for a while now 🚂 This time, inspired by Antonio Norelli ASIF's NeurIPS'23 paper (see https://lnkd.in/dQneRYrT), I tried to design a more interesting poster (not as colorful as ASIF but anywho), which indeed did capture people's attention. I feel like the current "imposed" poster template makes poster sessions tedious to follow and, generally, monotone. I think that poster sessions and presentations are the only opportunity where researchers can "cross" boundaries and be more artistic to convey their ideas. That's why I'm going to continue this trend in my future conference attendances. I'd urge other researchers to do so too.
