KI Science Park and A Working Lab have launched Lab Network to promote closer collaboration between the member companies by exchanging knowledge and experiences. – The value of bringing together individuals from both the lab co-working environment and the more established member companies with various backgrounds in such a format was evident, says Sara Gunnerås, COO at KI Science Park. – This forum will also have a focus on sustainability. What if the Brothers Grimm had written a tale about battery recycling? 📖🔋 These days, I’m with my colleagues Marta Gómez and Paula Moretti near Frankfurt, between Hanau and Alzenau, on the 'Fairy Tale Route' in honor of these famous writers who were born here. As we explore these beautiful landscapes filled with history, a crazy question comes to mind: What would the Brothers Grimm have thought if they had known about our FREE4LIB project? 🤔 Instead of princesses 👸, princes 🤴, witches 🧙♀️, and treasures 💰, our story is about scientists 👩🔬👨🔬, used batteries 🔋, and valuable materials 💎. The Circular Humansphere is the missing social dimension of a #CircularEconomy whereby we question what could an inclusive and circular model look like, and why not going all inclusive given what we know of the challenges ahead of us? The Humansphere looks at the humans from a circularity & regenerative thinking i.e. our roles & functions in the next economic model, or even better in our next model of life. Below is a graph that depicts the Humansphere in-between the biological and technical spheres of a circular model. - It comes with its 5 strategies of caring, deeply adapting, thriving, monitoring & believing differently. - It also comes with ways to manage our compass by calculating the distance left to reaching out to these new goals at micro-, meso- and macro-levels. 🚨 BREAKING: AMP has raised $91 million in Series D funding to accelerate the deployment of its AI-driven systems for sorting municipal solid waste (MSW). The company aims to modernize recycling by improving material recovery, lowering costs, and extending landfill life. Founded in 2014, AMP uses deep learning AI to identify and sort recyclables with remarkable precision. Its platform has processed over 2.5 million tons of recyclables and identified 150 billion items, transforming the economics of resource recovery. Recent successes include AMP’s partnership with Recycling and Disposal Solutions in Virginia, where their solution demonstrated 90% uptime while processing 150 tons of waste daily. Winner of the Young Ideas award: visiBIT 🍄 visiBIT emerged during a run around the lakes in Copenhagen in 2023. Biotechnologist and founder Line Kloster Pedersen was inspired by how fungi create natural pathways in the soil. Her thought was simple: Could asphalt grow from nature? Today, she and her team have developed mycelium – a fungus-based binder that can replace bitumen, the fossil-based substance that makes asphalt so harmful to the environment 🍂 With visiBIT, we can cut up to 83% of CO2 emissions from asphalt production and reduce energy use by as much as 90%. The technology integrates seamlessly into existing asphalt plants, eliminating the need for new machinery and making the transition to sustainability much easier. The Jury says 🗣️ “visiBIT reduces harmful emissions and promotes sustainable production methods through the innovative use of mycelium, transforming the asphalt industry while addressing environmental concerns. It has reimagined road construction inspired by nature and the inherent beauty of the regenerative processes that nature relies on. It acts as a catalyst for change, inspiring new ways to integrate natural materials and develop energy-efficient circular productions. We aren't for innovators anymore. These days, our products and methods are increasingly used by early adopters and even early majority consumers (as defined in Geoffrey Moore's book). Originally for 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, our story was focused on cutting-edge technology and pioneering sustainability. We highlighted innovations such as the advanced use of biochar technology to captivate those eager to be at the forefront of change. - 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 tend to care much more about the practical benefits and reliability of our products (i.e., they are results-oriented), while - 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 consumers tend to primarily want accessibility and user-friendliness (i.e., can I get it and use it easily). Where do you fall on this spectrum?
