Israeli Airstrikes Kill 37 in Gaza's Rafah, Sparking Global Outrage and Diplomatic Shifts! Israeli airstrikes and shelling near Gaza's Rafah have killed at least 37 Palestinians, mostly seeking shelter in tents. This incident, occurring overnight and into Tuesday, follows a deadly fire in the same area that killed 45 Palestinians. The fire, which erupted in a camp for displaced people, is under investigation, with the Israeli military suggesting it may have been caused by secondary explosions from militants' weapons. The international community, including Spain, Norway, and Ireland, responded with condemnation and formally recognized a Palestinian state. Prime Minister Netanyahu termed the fire a “tragic mishap,” while the U.S. urged caution against a full offensive. The UN and emergency workers report that over 1 million people have fled Rafah since Israel's assault began on May 6. Families are scattered in makeshift camps, enduring continuous bombings. Despite the military's claim of targeting Hamas militants, the strikes hit areas with no evacuation orders. The International Court of Justice ordered Israel to stop the Rafah offensive, and Algeria is drafting a UN Security Council resolution to halt the fighting. The situation remains dire, with ongoing violence and mounting international pressure. Where is the promise to evacuate civilians? In Gaza there is no place left but Israel could "easily" follow the gist of the UNSC and the ICJ decisions by creating a humanitarian solution which nevertheless includes achieving its goal of military fully dismantling Hamas. If Israel would open its borders and create Blue Helmets/UN peace force controlled, UNHCR managed, refugee facilities in Israel, it could upon doing so dismantle all military infrastructure in Gaza without causing any further civilian collateral damage. At the same time would the (disarmed) Gazans have a stable very safe zone to go to with a high likelihood to be able to return home if Gaza becomes inhabitable again (currently it is no longer). Finally, by involving the international community, a starting point for co-existence as equals could be created. www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo

No credible plan for the safety of Rafah's 1.4M residents. Most have no homes left. News Background丨New Round of Major Events in the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict Since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7, 2023, military clashes have resulted in nearly 42,000 Palestinian deaths and over 97,000 injuries. Hamas initiated the conflict with attacks on military and civilian targets in Israel, leading to around 1,200 Israeli fatalities and approximately 250 captures. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declared a "state of war," launching extensive airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. The UN General Assembly issued a resolution on October 27 calling for a humanitarian truce, which Israel rejected while continuing its attacks. By November 6, over 10,000 had died in Gaza due to these airstrikes. A temporary ceasefire on November 24 allowed for a seven-day period of detainee exchanges, but airstrikes resumed on December 1, with casualty figures escalating to over 30,000 by early February 2024. Ceasefire negotiations encountered challenges; Hamas declined to engage in talks in Cairo, which ultimately failed in May. The ICC is pursuing war crimes charges against key figures from both sides, as international entities recognize the State of Palestine and urge Israel to halt military operations. By late August 2024, casualty figures reached 40,000, spurring public protests in Israel for a ceasefire and the return of missing detainees. Recent developments include Israeli military operations shifting from southern to northern fronts and renewed UN dialogues, with China proposing de-escalation measures. The situation remains precarious, driven by ongoing violence, international diplomatic efforts, and a deepening humanitarian crisis. #AsiaRisk #GeopoliticalConflictandDisputes #China Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gJQv-UEv

Hezbollah suffered severe damage, Israel has more blows ready — Israeli defense minister "Today’s Hezbollah is not the Hezbollah of a week ago," Yoav Gallant said TEL AVIV, September 24/ Hezbollah suffered several serious blows and Israel is set to keep them coming, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said. He made the statement as he spoke to troops after a drill that simulated a ground offensive in Lebanon. "Today’s Hezbollah is not the Hezbollah of a week ago. The sequence of blows it faced to its command and control, its operatives, its weapons, all these things are extremely severe blows," Gallant said in comments released by the Defense Ministry. "I trust the Israel Defense Forces and everything it does, and we have more blows ready," Galant continued. He said the Israeli military "knows what to do and how." "It is necessary to achieve the goal of safely returning the residents of northern Israel to their homes," Gallant said. "You understand that there may come a moment when we give an order and the system will move forward, so it is necessary to make preparations. It is very important." Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from Gaza, killing residents of Israeli border settlements and taking about 250 hostages, including women, children and the elderly. Hamas described its attack as retaliation for the aggressive actions taken by Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response, Israel declared a total siege of the Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians before the crisis, following with air strikes on Gaza and some parts of Lebanon and Syria before starting a ground operation in the Palestinian enclave. Against this background, tensions continue to rise on the Lebanese-Israeli border. Since October 8, 2023, ongoing cross-border strikes on Israel from Lebanon’s territory have prompted return fire from Israeli forces, who, according to military reports, are targeting Hezbollah sites. To date, approximately 80,000 people have been evacuated from northern Israel. #business #finance #financialservices

India condemned recent Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan that targeted civilians, including women and children, and expressed solidarity with the Taliban regime. The Indian government labeled the attacks a violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and reiterated its longstanding criticism of Pakistan for blaming neighboring countries for its domestic issues. The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the loss of innocent lives and any assaults on civilians. Pakistan claimed the airstrikes were retaliatory actions against cross-border terrorism, while the Taliban denounced them as violations of international law and vowed to respond. This incident follows previous strikes by Pakistan targeting suspected hideouts of the Pakistani Taliban, including a December attack that resulted in at least 51 deaths, increasing border tensions and prompting promises of retaliation from the Taliban. #AsiaRisk #GeopoliticalConflictandDisputes #India Get a full accounting of the security situation in Asia by subscribing to Security Asia. An Israeli airstrike on a designated humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip killed at least 40 people and injured dozens more, according to Gaza's civil defence authorities. The strike targeted the Mawasi area in Khan Younis, which had been identified by Israel as a humanitarian zone. Local civil defence official Mohammed al-Mughair confirmed the death toll, and both the Hamas-linked Shehab news agency and Fatah-linked Wafa news agency corroborated the reports of 40 fatalities. The impact of the strike caused extensive damage, with over 20 tents catching fire and craters up to nine meters deep left in the area. In response, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the target was a Hamas command centre, accusing Hamas of using human shields within the civilian and humanitarian infrastructure. Hamas denied the presence of its fighters in the area, calling the claims a "blatant lie." The IDF further alleged that Palestinian militant groups have consistently exploited humanitarian zones for terrorist activities against Israel. The incident adds to the escalating conflict, deepening the humanitarian crisis in the region. Source: AFP, AP, Reuters, dpa So what It will be interesting to see what comes of this strike. Numerous commentators online mentioned how abnormal this strike was even for Israel and speculated that the targets must have been important. However, it will likely come at the cost of significant public backlash; even if they can show clear signs that they hit military targets, the general public will likely criticize the strike. Yet it seems like Israel no longer cares about the opinion of the general international community so long as they maintain US support. Follow us to join the intelligence community!
