Yesterday’s #ClinicalChallenge question was: True or false? In patients with severe aortic stenosis, long-term mortality rates are higher with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) compared with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). The answer is: False. In a recent trial in 280 patients with severe aortic stenosis who were randomly assigned to receive a bioprosthetic valve via transcatheter implantation or surgical replacement, mortality rates at 10 years were similar between the two groups.
