I don't suggest you leave your 9-5 job for freelancing Unless… ➟Your workplace is extremely toxic. ➟You have been freelancing on the side. ➟You have a steady flow of clients from different platforms. ➟You have enough savings to last you at least a few months. I absolutely love freelancing because of the freedom to - Work on my own terms. - Take a break whenever I want to. - Say no to a project if it is not my cup of tea. But leaving a stable job in a good organization on a whim? No!! It wouldn’t be a wise decision if you are completely new to freelancing because you have to: ↳ Deal with the dry season while client hunting. ↳ Balance freedom with self-discipline. ↳ Be self-reliant and a self-learner. ↳ Build a network to grow. But if you know how to do it right, there is nothing better than freelancing. I would encourage you to choose freelancing over 9-5 but only when you have established your freelancing career enough to take care of your responsibilities. However, it is your life at the end of the day. Do what suits YOU the best! P.S. Do you agree? What would you add to this?
It’s been 4 years since i started freelancing and touchwood, I do have good clients. However, i’m also doing a 9-5 since 1.5 years. It’s not toxic and ofcourse every work is pressuring — whether it’s 9-5 or freelancing. I like the fact that I can do freelancing and also get a closer look into the industry by working a 9-5. Since i’m into writing and my full time job revolved around the same, I would have NEVER learned about behind the scenes. As a freelance writer, my limit is that the client gives the topic, I work on it and that’s all. How they come up with the strategy? How do they decide what works for them? How do they A/B test different things? How do they keep a track of what’s working? How do they decide what happens after publishing the content? How often and how do they even update the content months later? These are the things my 9-5 made me see CLOSELY and it eventually made a huge impact on my freelancing career because besides just writing, I know how things work behind the process too 🩷
I love your opinion and perspective, i have the same, but you don't know the depth of an ocean until you dive in, by comments i read you have not done a corporate job similarly i have not done any job either but due to financial circumstances i am now diving in the ocean and would not say much but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do! And both sides have there pros and cons, job does have a few perks like holidays , weekends off, task oriented etc but the biggest problem is $$$ money, you cant earn much there in a short specific time. But you are right don't transition until your kitchen income is sorted if its sorted then skip and invest fully in freelancing.
just think of a freedom number for yourself (200K per month for example or more) that you think you can earn thru your work. if freelancing is getting you that (with high potential to go beyond which is common) then just go for freelancing. but if not then, maybe you need a little more time before you transition yourself from a 9-5.
Well, it's like a paradoxical situation here. Freelancers assume 9-5 job to be less hectic, for one can get free from the tasks after 5; on the other hand, nine-to-fivers think of freelancers to be more independent and all that. The grass is always greener on the other side.. Point is both jobs come with a certain set of pros and cons. You can't compare the apples to oranges, for sure they gotta look different.
Thank you for this honest perspective. I have worked in the corporate for 4 years. My work-life balance did not exist. It was only work and work. Freelancing since the last year. While I love the freedom to work on my own terms, keeping myself disciplined is a big challenge. Learning everyday from people like you. Will keep bugging you to know the do's and don'ts of freelancing. Be prepared, Uraiba Khatri 😁
This seems so relatable. At times it feels to just switch towards freelancing full time. Keeping a balance between freelance career and 9-5 job is not easy to be honest. At one end 9-5 job guarantee you at least covering your basic necessities in current Pakistan scenario & on the other hand freelancing guarantees you financial freedom if adapted full time. The key deciding factor lies here is the client influx.
Shift to freelancing when your side hustle is making 2x of your job income. Freelancing isn't as easy as it seems. It requires more hard work and hours than compared to a 9-5. Don't believe in fantasies that freelancing is all butterflies and blossoms.
Its good if you have enough clinets money and peace. But some people enjoy offices Meeting people working together discussing things And thats fine I enjoy working in offices and because of a good day at office m usually more creative and fresh while dealing remote clients. Just do what suits you
Absolutely agreed 💯 That's why I'm not in a position to leave my job as I have no enough backup for few months.
