Building Resilient Urban Communities under the Climate Change Era 🌿🏙️ As extreme weather events become more frequent, ensuring safety and resilience is critical. Urban design plays a crucial role in creating resilient communities that can withstand climate change. Incorporating #WELL strategies into urban design also aligns with the insights shared by ArchDaily on how architecture and urban planning can combat climate change. Strategies such as optimizing green spaces for urban heat control and employing local, innovative building materials are critical in creating resilient cities. 🔸 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: Addresses urban heat islands and enhances thermal comfort through landscaping, reflective materials, and green roofs, creating cooler and more comfortable urban environments. https://lnkd.in/dEHEjhdU 🔸 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Monitors and improves outdoor air quality to protect community health, especially in densely populated urban areas. https://lnkd.in/dJjP8VBk 🔸 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: Encourages physical activity through walkable streets, parks, and active transportation options, fostering healthier lifestyles. https://lnkd.in/db-NtSAn 🔸 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: Develops plans and infrastructure to respond to emergencies, ensuring community safety and resilience. https://lnkd.in/dYwfknQk Explore these efforts, emphasizing the role of sustainable design in mitigating climate impacts here: https://lnkd.in/dMBEcRWh #urbanplanning #climateresilience #communityhealth #sustainableliving

Rethinking Urban Regeneration: A Holistic Approach In urban regeneration, the built environment -encompassing buildings and infrastructure- serves as a vital tool for achieving broader social, economic, and environmental objectives. Ultimately, our goal is to enhance the quality of life for current and future generations. Prioritizing Systems Over Structures When embarking on an urban regeneration initiative, it’s crucial to prioritize the social, economic, and environmental systems before diving into architectural masterplans. The initial design phase should focus on understanding the community's dynamics, social relations, economic activities, and environmental ecosystems. These elements always transcend administrative and ownership boundaries, revealing a complex web of interconnections. Crafting a Vision for the Future A strong vision for how these systems might evolve is essential. This vision should inform the development of social, economic, and environmental designs that aim to benefit people, businesses, and the environment alike. Built Environment as a Natural Outcome Only after establishing this foundational understanding should we turn our attention to the built environment. The design of our spaces should emerge organically from the insights gleaned during this exploratory phase, ensuring that our buildings and infrastructure are not just structures but integral components of a thriving community. A more thoughtful approach to urban regeneration -one that places people and their environments at the heart of our initiatives- can create sustainable spaces that truly reflect the needs and aspirations of communities and businesses, while regenerating the natural environment. #UrbanRegeneration #Sustainability #CommunityDevelopment #QualityOfLife #realestate #construction #visioning #strategy #urbandevelopment #infrastructure #urbanplanning #property

Interesting analysis of what I think about urban planning and architecture
"𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 is the art and science of shaping 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 and 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 to meet the needs of today while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow. It involves not only the 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 of spaces but also the integration of 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹, and 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 factors that influence how people live, work, and interact. Effective urban planning strives to create 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 cities that promote 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, and well-being for all residents. It requires a balance of innovation and tradition, where thoughtful design supports the aspirations of diverse communities, fosters connectivity, and minimizes the 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁. At its core, urban planning is about envisioning a future where cities are not just functional, but are vibrant, inclusive, and reflective of the values and dreams of those who call them home." 🌱 Are you passionate about sustainable urban development? Your expertise is needed!🌍 Hi everyone! 👋🏻 I’m Riya Nagesh Burshe, a Master’s student at the University of Birmingham. I’m writing my dissertation on “Towards Sustainable Urabn Living: A Study of Eco-neighbourhood initiatives in Digbeth, Highgate, East side city park, Birmingham Eastside”. I’m kindly inviting Urban Planners, Architects, Sustainability Experts, Community Members, Birmingham City Council Representatives, Policy Makers, Academics, and individuals with experience in eco-neighbourhoods or related fields to participate in a brief survey. This survey aims to understand how sustainable practices—such as energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, urban mobility, and green spaces—are being implemented in Eastside (including Digbeth, Highgate, and Eastside City Park). Your insights will help compare these practices with global eco-neighbourhoods, offering valuable perspectives on how Eastside can enhance its sustainability efforts. ⏳ The survey will only take 5-10 minutes, but your input is crucial to shaping future urban development strategies! 👉🏻[ https://lnkd.in/dNB2PaV2 ] Please feel free to share this post within your network—your colleagues’ insights are just as valuable. With your help, I hope to gather diverse perspectives that can contribute to a more sustainable urban future. Thank you so much for your time and valuable input. #UrbanSustainability #EcoNeighbourhoods #SustainableDevelopment #EastsideBirmingham #Research #UrbanPlanning #EnvironmentalSustainability #MastersResearch #GreenBuilding #WasteManagement #WaterConservation #SustainableMobility #GreenSpaces #UrbanDesign #CityPlanning #SmartCities #SustainableCities #UrbanInnovation #PublicPolicy #FutureCities
