What does my personal status quo in terms of CO2 reduction actually look like? I haven't flown privately since 2010...!!! Four people live in our household and - my mum lives in the same house on the top floor. Our house has been renovated to make it more energy-efficient and the walls and roof have been insulated with natural fibre insulation (climate protection with ecological wood fibre insulation - PAVATEX). Only LEDs are installed throughout the house. There are no more light bulbs... This year we planted 2 new trees in our garden and more are sure to follow... Since spring 2024 we have installed a 12.7 kWh photovoltaic system with 10 kW storage. We separate our waste (yellow bag, paper, glass, organic) and avoid residual waste... If something breaks, it is repaired and reused (e.g. washing machine, toaster, etc.). I avoid unnecessary car journeys. Since Dec. 2023 I have been driving an electric car (Cupra Born) which is largely charged via my own PV system. Many of my clothes are already over 10 years old. I therefore look for high-quality clothes, possibly with an Oeko-Tex or blue label, and usually wear them for a long time. I eat fruit and vegetables every day and mainly buy organic and, if possible, locally grown and then mostly seasonal vegetables or fruit. We now only eat meat 1-2 times a week and when we do, it's high-quality organic meat or farmed meat from 3-5. Farmed meat from 1 and 2 is completely taboo for us...!!!! As we no longer have a ‘corner shop’ in our town, we have to rely on Aldi, Lidl and Edeka. However, these now offer a decent selection of regional organic products. I unplug all unused electrical appliances as far as possible or use a socket with an off-switch. I don't leave the water running continuously when brushing my teeth or showering, but only turn it on to ‘wet and rinse’. Our washing machines and dishwashers are modern, water-saving appliances with ‘ECO programmes’. We have three 1000 litre tanks in the garden and collect rainwater for irrigation... We use strong bags for shopping and no plastic bags and avoid packaging waste wherever possible... Our washing machine runs at 30° as far as possible. And lo and behold - the laundry still gets clean... CONCLUSION: There are still plenty of situations where I could certainly do a lot more to reduce CO2 and protect the climate, but I think I'm on the right track. If everyone were to reflect on and evaluate their own situation, then we could take much bigger steps forward here and, if necessary, proactively support the climate targets set by politicians and also persuade companies and, for example, discounters to put even more organic goods or animal welfare-compliant products on the shelves... WE ARE MANY!!!
Cutting Carbon Footprints: CCS Leading the Clean Energy Revolution! 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗗𝗙 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲: (For quick Insight Please fill out the out the form with official/corporate mail IDs.) Industrial decarbonisation isn't merely a trend; it's a necessity, a paradigm shift that demands innovative solutions and unwavering commitment. Let’s look at the few promising options to rapidly accelerate the decarbonisation Journey. Hydrogen Beyond Hype: Hydrogen has long been hailed as the ultimate clean energy solution. Recent advancements in green hydrogen production, particularly through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, offer a game-changing opportunity. Imagine industrial sectors powered by clean hydrogen, not just as an energy source but also as a feedstock for critical processes, heralding a new era of sustainable production. Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) : Traditional carbon capture technologies have focused on sequestering CO2 emissions underground, but Emerging CCU technologies explore the conversion of CO2 into fuels, chemicals, and building materials, effectively turning emissions into assets. Electrification: The electrification of industrial processes has gained traction, driven by the proliferation of renewable energy sources. Transitioning from fossil fuel based heating to electric heating, from fossil fuelled vehicles to EV offer immense opportunities in this space. Digital Twins for Decarbonisation: The marriage of digitalization and decarbonisation presents unprecedented opportunities for optimization and emissions reduction. Digital twins, virtual replicas of physical assets, empower industries to simulate and optimize processes in real-time, minimizing energy consumption and waste generation. By leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning, we can navigate the complex interplay of variables to achieve unparalleled efficiency gains. Collaborative Ecosystems: Solving the grand challenge of industrial decarbonisation demands collective action and cross-sector collaboration. Embracing open innovation frameworks, industries can foster ecosystems where stakeholders co-create and share knowledge, resources, and best practices. From startups to incumbents, academia to policymakers, forging synergistic partnerships accelerates the pace of innovation and drives systemic change. Circularity as a Cornerstone: Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy is pivotal in achieving sustainable industrial decarbonisation. Embracing principles of circularity entails designing products for durability, reuse, and recycling, minimizing waste and emissions throughout the lifecycle. By closing the loop on material flows and adopting circular business models, industries can not only mitigate environmental impact but also unlock new revenue streams and enhance resilience. #decarbonisation #climatechange
