🌐 When it comes to cartilage treatment of the hip, Europe has nothing to hide from the USA! Many therapies that are (still) standard here in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are hardly available in the USA and many other countries around the world. Cartilage cell transplants with chondrospheres or 3D gels, for example, are not possible at all. Together with my friend Jacek Mazek from Poland, I was able to co-chair the ICL3 session for the ISHA in Washington DC (https://lnkd.in/dt7zNeea) and present our experiences, technical how-to videos and the current study situation. Most important message: “save the subchondral plate!” - Microfracturing of the hip is dead! All recent studies show that microfracturing of full-thickness cartilage damage in the hip leads to worse results than doing “nothing”! And the cartilage regeneration methods with membranes, chondrogenic gels and mACT are much better! Thanks to all participants and the speakers Jacek Mazek, Michel Rahme and Antonio Porthos Salas for their contributions and discussions. Thanks to ISHA for building up this congress - so important for collegial exchange in this field and building up new friendships. 🤝 #ISHA #QKG #CartilageRepair #PAO #HipArthroscopy

Very proud of sharing this innovative article just published in #Cephalalgia: "Abnormal electromyographical trigeminal activation through stimulation of the offending artery (Z-L response): An intraoperative tool during #microvascular_decompression for #trigeminal_neuralgia". These pathological responses were for the first time registered from #trigeminal_nerve. We provided the first evidence on the applicability and clinical usefulness of Z-L response in this clinical scenario. #functional_neurosurgery #policlinico_gemelli #microvascular_decompression #trigeminal_neuralgia #intraoperative_neuromonitoring

We’re proud to be working with Dr. Brian Perri, Dr. Edward Nomoto, Dr. Albert Wong, Dr. Khawar Siddique, Dr. Neel Anand and Dr. Parham Yashar, at the DOCS Health in Los Angeles, California as part of the Synergy Disc US IDE 2-Level clinical trial. The trial is a multi-center, prospective, non-randomized, historically controlled study to demonstrate the Synergy Disc is at least as safe and effective as conventional anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) to treat cervical degenerative disc disease (DDD) in subjects who are symptomatic at two levels from C3 to C7 are and are unresponsive to conservative management. A total of 200 patients will be enrolled to the investigational group at a number of sites across the country. For more information on the trial, head to https://lnkd.in/ecX_9JEq CAUTION: In the US, the Synergy Disc is an Investigational Device limited by United States Law to Investigational Use only. #spine #orthopedic #clinicaltrial #cervicaldisc

The project’s goal is to develop a replacement knee of regenerated living cartilage and bone that integrates seamlessly with the native bone and restores pain-free joint function. Since cells are required to regenerate and maintain this living implant, the team will create two versions of NOVAJoint: a version that uses patient’s own cells and one that uses donor cells. The researchers expect NOVAJoint to substantially extend the implant life, reducing complications, and to become a permanent and final procedure for the treatment of #osteoarthritis of the knee. https://lnkd.in/d5FFgMV2

Together with the world-class ophthalmogists at the Lions Eye Institute, Lions Vision Trials conducts clinical trials for a spectrum of eye conditions, such as Age-related Macular Degeneration, Retinal Vein Occlusion and Retinitis Pigmentosa. Do you know someone experiencing any of these conditions? While every person's vision is different, these images can help give an idea of what a person may see should they have one of these indications. If you would like to know more about the trials we offer at Lions Vision Trials, you can visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gu6AqfeW #LionsVisionTrials #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #lionseyeinstitute #research #ophthalmology #visioncare #amd #perth #retinitispigmentosa #rvo

🔬 Hot off the press: To close, not to close, or to act bigger? Managing the defect of large direct inguinal hernia to reduce the risk of recurrence during laparoscopic TAPP repair: a retrospective cohort study 🔍 Abstract Snapshot: Our retrospective study with a propensity score matched population compared whether closing the hernia defect and using a standard-sized 3D mesh or not closing and placing an XL 3D mesh had different recurrence rates compared to not closing and placing a standard 3D mesh 💡 Key Insight: Closure of large direct inguinal hernia defects showed promise in reducing early recurrence rates, as highlighted in our 2-year follow-up. Using an XL 3D mesh without defect closure may offer a feasible and safe alternative 🔗 Link to Paper: https://lnkd.in/dBjdJtAa Thanks to all co-authors: Federica Ferraina Emilia Masci Davide Ferrara Diletta Cassini MD, PhD Giuseppe Faillace
