I find this to not only be the case with closures, but the overall impact of the lack of genuine reform in the healthcare system as a whole. Even in major cities and urban areas, hospitals are overwhelmed with a flood of patients leading to Emergency Room (ER) waiting times of several hours being the norm. As more and more hospitals close, and as more and more people seek primary care at an ER versus a doctor's office, the pressure on ER Doctors and Nurses only increases and the quality of care offered can decline. While I do not know the solution, I agree that we need a more comprehensive approach and look at the situation!
With tangible impacts on doctors, nearby hospitals, and patients who need access to specific forms of care, HKS's Soroush Saghafian recommends that policymakers use broader sets of data in determining what policy actions best address hospital closure https://ken.sc/3XZtD7L
Hospital closures mean more than just the loss of access to medical care

Just stumbled across this great article from a couple years back - a GP and a Hospital Specialist reflect on a day spent observing each other’s practice. It’s a 5 min read and a humbling account of how tribalism in medicine can give way to mutual respect, when we understand the unique skills we each bring to the daily challenges of healthcare delivery. If you’re a doctor, read it on your commute. #healthcare #medicine #generalpractice

Code Caller Application for Hospitals. Importance of Timing and Clarity in Calling Emergency Codes Timely Response Ensures Patient Safety: Emergency codes must be called immediately to mobilize the necessary medical team and resources. *Prompt calls allow healthcare professionals to respond swiftly, which is critical in life-threatening situations. Clear Communication Prevents Confusion: Clarity in code calls ensures that all relevant staff members understand the nature and location of the emergency. Clear announcements help avoid miscommunication, ensuring the right personnel and equipment are dispatched. Standardization Across Hospital Departments: Consistent use of emergency codes across different departments eliminates confusion and ensures uniform responses. Standardized codes help all staff members, regardless of department, recognize and react appropriately to emergencies. *Dangers of Unclear or Inconsistent Code Calling Delayed Response: Unclear calls can lead to hesitation and slow down the mobilization of medical teams. Delays in response can worsen a patient's condition, especially in critical situations like cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. Fragmented Medical Team Coordination: Inconsistent codes or unclear communication can result in only parts of the team responding, causing fragmented care. Fragmented responses can lead to inefficiencies and mistakes, endangering patient outcomes. Potential for Misunderstanding: If different departments use varying codes or terms, staff might not recognize the urgency or nature of the emergency. Misunderstandings can lead to inadequate responses and increased risk to patient safety. *Ensuring Effective Emergency Code Calling Advanced Communication Systems: Utilizing robust communication systems ensures code calls are heard clearly and promptly throughout the facility. Technologies like overhead paging systems and emergency alert systems can enhance clarity and speed. Adherence to Standardized Protocols: Hospitals must enforce strict adherence to standardized emergency codes across all departments. Consistency in protocols helps ensure a coordinated and effective response, improving overall patient safety.
