#NYClimateWeek has officially kicked off! I’ve been fortunate enough to attend some fascinating events over the weekend. Yesterdays inspiring time at the #RegenerativeAgricultureNetworking event was insightful and encouraging for the future of agriculture diversification. It was a pleasure to meet Kel Kanhirun, Lilan Dayananda, Tim Tensen, Zack Rosenfeld, Charles Darling, V Hugh Locke and Andrew Kilduff. Data Solutions are the basis for a comprehensive and effective approach to diversifying agriculture. VERIFI & Smallholder Data Services are providing the tools to help farmers succeed and thrive. The discussions highlighted critical areas shaping the future of farming and its role in addressing a unified movement for agricultural development. #sustainablenature: Our key takeaways: • The necessity of environmental data analysis to support corporations and regulatory bodies in creating global standards for monitoring and monetising biodiversity in regenerative farming. • Tackling the increasing value loss due to underutilised farmland and the importance of agricultural diversification implementing a holistic approach to rejuvenating farmland and rural communities. • Innovative solutions like Renewable Energy Land Leasing, Agroforestry, Biochar production, and Waste-to-Energy (such as AD) were emphasised as transformative tools in building resilient farming systems. • A spotlight on young farmers, who need to be educated and funded to carry forward sustainable agricultural practices, including AgriTech and vertical farming. GrowPura – a UK technology company looking to grow things differently 🚀 👉 One company is challenging the stacked approach favoured by the early #verticalfarms. New AG International spoke to GrowPura’s Executive Chairman Nick Bateman to learn about the company’s different type of vertical farming design and technology. By designing a vertical farm differently, you could reduce the number of LED lights required, and in turn lower the energy consumption. GrowPura has a number of special differences, involving continuous movement of the crop including vibration to improve product uniformity.
