The crazy season that is November and Christmas has well and truly kicked off... Last week saw the News on the Block awards (congrats to Nik Trevillion and Vikki Morlang) and it was great to see over 1,000 people attending celebrating an industry that I have been in for over 20 years and does, despite suggestions otherwise, (as several others including Jamie Willsdon eloquent post already said) contain multitudes of people that care and strive in difficult circumstances to provide an amazing service. Next then came the first real storm of the season this weekend and a brutal one it was for us with an uplift of over 90% on normal volumes. 67 leaks alone on Saturday before 1pm. Up this week is a major client visiting us here at Ireland head office this week followed by another visit to London and The Negotiator Awards and Expo on Friday, come see us at our stand and/or at the evenings festivities. Also on the future schedule is our Christmas celebrations at the NEC in Birmingham and finally PROPARTY Official where we are a sponsor at Antony Jones and Colin Horton industry Xmas extravaganza (there may be a few tickets left if you don't want to miss out) Then our busiest and toughest professional part of the year, our 12 Days of Christmas where around 70% of our clients close for the holidays and we are responsible for over half a million properties for 12 consecutive days (and over a million for all the weekend and Bank Holiday days). So, its that time of year again and we are being bombarded with the usual christmas ads. To this day, I don't think any of them beat Sainsburys ad about the soldiers playing footie on christmas eve. If you haven't watched it, brace yourself. Its a powerful one! Anyway, as seems to be the usual now on Linkedin - there are a whole bunch of people analysing them for 'wokeness' and either heavily criticising the ideas behind them or supporting them. How about, instead of writing essays about why an ad should or shouldn't be made the way it was, we demand more from these multi million pound businesses? Lets be honest, we all know they spend hundreds of thousands, if not millions on these christmas adverts. It has become a staple of christmas culture in the UK and we all, myself included, watch out for them. How about they use the money for the Narnia like experience in johnlewis or the gingerbread house in Tesco or Mrs Claus kicking ass in Boots UK for something far better than a 2-3 minute ad for a shop everyone is already familiar with. How about they donate that money. I would love to see a Christmas ad from even just one of these multi million pound businesses that simply says - It would have cost £500,000 to make this years Christmas ad but instead, this year we donated those funds to Crisis. £500,000 will allow us to help to get 350 people off the streets. Or maybe one of them could donate that £500,000 to Humanity and Inclusion to help the vital work that they do in 59 countries around the world. Maybe, instead of entertaining a country for a matter of minutes with something that exacerbates an already huge financial crisis and puts people under immense pressure, they could do something that may seem tiny to us but in reality would be lifechanging for people much worse off than the majority of us debating the finer points of a Christmas ad. As we approach the festive break, I’m feeling particularly reflective and proud. Time truly flies when you work together to achieve remarkable things, and I couldn’t be more grateful to lead such a fantastic team. This year, we’ve welcomed over 8,000 colleagues through successful TUPE transfers and organic growth. Business Services alone has seen the mobilisation of 35 new contracts, boosting our Net Promoter Score to an impressive 67%. We’ve welcomed renowned brands like Lidl, EY and the Community Health Partnership into the Mitie family and our truly ground-breaking partnership with WalkSafe has significantly strengthened our Safer Communities initiative, driving innovation and enabling meaningful progress within the Security sector. By channelling the synergy of our collaboration, we’re empowered not only to acquire game-changing insights, but also to join forces in proactively combating crime and safeguarding our communities. We’ve fully embraced the power of AI so we can continue to deliver the exceptional every day and we’ve built stronger connections with the government and policing through crucial schemes like the Pegasus Project. We've all heard of the iconic Naughty or Nice List - a staple fixture in making sure Christmas runs smoothly; but thanks to a combination of global population change, legacy approaches to evidence management, and technology that had not kept pace with digital change, this Christmas staple simply wasn’t keeping up. Massive mistakes were creeping in, leaving well-behaved children marked as Naughty—and raising some serious questions about Christmas equity. This ultimately left our client, Mr. Claus, struggling to meet the demanding deadlines of the holiday season; and for an operation built on magic and trust, this was a Christmas morning wake-up call. Alexander Thring, one of our Senior Consultants, said: "Transforming Christmas can't happen in a silo; you can't skip a year just to make change happen! We're often asked to change the tyre whilst the car is in motion, but we weren't prepared to unwrap) just how hard Santa's elves have to work to keep the magic of Christmas going.
