Today, as we observe World Human Rights Day with the theme "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now!", I am reminded of a case that redefined my perspective on what it truly means to stand up for someone's rights. A few months ago, I was approached by a young woman who had been subjected to workplace harassment and denied basic employment rights. She was not only mistreated but silenced when she dared to question the system. With her confidence shattered, she approached me unsure if she could fight back. I still remember her words: "Will I ever get justice? They are more powerful than me." In moments like these, it’s not just about knowing the law; it’s about restoring faith—faith in justice, in equality, and in the fundamental belief that no one can strip you of your dignity. I drafted the case, stood by her every step, and together, we fought back. The result? She not only won the case but emerged stronger, proving that no institution or individual is above the rights guaranteed to us. This story isn’t just about her; it’s about all of us. Human rights are not mere words; they are promises—promises of freedom, equality, and justice. And those promises need to be protected right now.
