Attention all professionals in the flooring industry! Understanding the impact of moisture on floor coverings is crucial for successful installations. Excessive moisture can lead to swelling, blistering, and even buckling of floor coverings, while adhesives may dissolve, causing materials to come loose. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to moisture can promote mold growth, resulting in discoloration.

🇬🇧 Pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). This type of adhesive becomes tacky when dry, allowing for the flooring to be laid down, adjusted if necessary, and then securely bonded when pressure is applied. The “release and set” method, which I described involving laying the flooring into wet adhesive, then pulling it back and waiting for the adhesive to become tacky before finally laying it down and applying pressure, takes full advantage of the properties of pressure-sensitive adhesives. Key Characteristics of Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Method: • Pressure Activation: PSA requires the application of pressure to form a strong bond between the flooring and the subfloor. This is typically achieved by rolling the flooring after installation. • Tackiness: Unlike other adhesives that bond through evaporation or chemical reactions, PSA remains tacky even after drying. This tackiness allows the flooring to be repositioned until final pressure is applied. • Immediate and Permanent Bond: Once pressure is applied, the bond becomes immediate and permanent, making it ideal for flooring applications where durability and longevity are important. • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of flooring materials, including vinyl tiles and planks, carpet tiles, and others that require a resilient bond. Ideal Use Cases: • High-Traffic Areas: The durable bond created by PSAs makes them suitable for commercial settings or residential areas with high foot traffic. • Areas Requiring Precision: The ability to reposition flooring before applying pressure allows for precise alignment and adjustment, ensuring a professional finish. By employing the pressure-sensitive adhesive method with the “release and set” technique, you ensure a strong, reliable bond for resilient flooring installations, with the added benefit of adjustability for perfect alignment. #marcocaineroattitude #marketexpansion #adhesive

What Are Common Mistakes During SPC Floor Installation? SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) flooring has gained immense popularity for its luxurious appearance, durability, and low maintenance. However, improper installation can lead to some problems, negating the benefits of this remarkable flooring solution. 1. INADEQUATE SUBFLOOR PREPARATION: One of the most critical aspects of SPC floor installation is preparing the subfloor properly. Neglecting this step can result in uneven surfaces, squeaks, and premature wear of the SPC flooring. Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level before laying the SPC planks to provide a stable foundation for your new floors. 2. INSUFFICIENT ACCLIMATION TIME: SPC flooring requires acclimation to the environment it will be installed. Allowing the planks to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity levels helps prevent expansion or contraction issues after installation. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for acclimation time to avoid potential problems. 3. IMPROPER CLICK-AND-LOCK INSTALLATION: Many SPC flooring systems feature a click-and-lock mechanism, ensuring a secure fit between planks. Using the wrong tapping or locking technique during installation can damage the planks and compromise the interlocking system, resulting in loose or unstable flooring. 4. INCORRECT CUTTING AND FITTING: Precise cutting and fitting are crucial for achieving a polished look and seamless transitions between SPC planks. Avoid hasty cutting or poor fitting around doorways, corners, or obstacles, as these mistakes can create unsightly gaps and compromise the overall appearance of your floors. 🇬🇧 Is the absorbency of a substrate relevant? When working with dispersion adhesives for PVC flooring, the waiting time before laying the flooring is crucial and varies significantly based on the absorbency of the substrate. Here's a detailed explanation: Importance of Substrate Absorbency Absorbent Substrate: - Characteristics: Examples include concrete, cement screeds, and certain types of plywood. These materials readily absorb moisture. - Waiting Time: Typically around 10 minutes. - Reason: Absorbent substrates quickly draw the moisture from the adhesive, allowing it to reach the optimal tackiness needed for effective bonding in a short period. This rapid absorption prevents excessive moisture retention, which can lead to issues such as poor adhesion or extended drying times. Non-Absorbent Substrate: - Characteristics: Examples include existing ceramic tiles, metal surfaces, and certain sealed concrete floors. These materials do not absorb moisture. - Waiting Time: Can increase up to 80 minutes or more. - Reason: Non-absorbent substrates do not draw moisture from the adhesive. As a result, the adhesive must rely solely on air exposure to evaporate the water content, which takes significantly longer. This extended waiting period ensures the adhesive achieves the necessary tackiness and prevents issues such as slippage or inadequate bonding. Why Absorbency Matters 1. Optimal Adhesion: The adhesive must reach a semi-dry state to provide the right balance of tackiness and strength. An absorbent substrate helps achieve this state quickly, ensuring a strong bond. 2. Prevention of Adhesive Failure: If the waiting time is not properly adhered to, it can lead to premature placement of the flooring, causing poor adhesion, bubbles, or lifting of the PVC flooring over time. 3. Work Efficiency: Understanding the substrate's absorbency allows for better planning and scheduling. Projects involving non-absorbent substrates require longer waiting periods, which must be factored into the timeline to avoid rushing the process. 4. Quality of Finish: Properly managed waiting times ensure a smooth and even application of the flooring, avoiding imperfections that can arise from improperly dried adhesive. In conclusion, the absorbency of the substrate directly influences the waiting time needed for dispersion adhesives to set before laying PVC flooring. Recognizing and adapting to these differences is essential for achieving a durable, high-quality installation.
