We are excited to announce the publication of our latest paper in the Journal of Energy Storage. In this study, we utilized computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze the borehole heat exchanger of a ground-source heat pump. 🔍 Study Highlights: Focus: Reducing CO2 emissions through energy conservation and renewable energy sources. Technology: Ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs) for sustainable heating and cooling. Approach: Utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with Ansys Fluent software to simulate new design modifications. 🌀 Key Innovations: Spiral Fins: Introducing single and double spiral fins with different pitches (60 mm and 40 mm) to the exterior of the heat exchanger. Phase Change Materials (PCMs): Integrating microencapsulated PCMs with varying volume fractions (0%, 10%, 30%, and 50%) into the backfill material. ❗🌊 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝟰 𝘄𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲! The Moored MultiModal Multibody (M4) wave energy device has reached its next stage, arriving fully assembled from the Albany construction yard at the Waterfront Marina. SMC Marine, MCB Construction, LEE'S TRANSPORT, and Coastal Cranes managed the transport. According to Marine Energy Research Australia, it is currently stationed and ready for further assembly, including ballasting and tow prep, as it awaits deployment off Albany's coast. Designed to withstand harsh ocean conditions, the M4 is specifically tailored for #waveenergy potential in the #WesternAustralia region, which boasts strong, consistent wave patterns. Initial tests and data from its smaller prototypes suggest significant energy yield capacity. Project funding partners are The UWA Oceans Institute, The University of Western Australia, Blue Economy CRC DPIRD, and UWA Albany Campus. The M4 wave energy device, featuring a triangular forward frame, a trailing arm, and a power generator on the connecting hinge, is built from structural steel beams and four steel floater buoys for buoyancy and ballast.
