One of my highlights was when @Dr. Sylvia Mbugua mentioned that 1 in every 10 individuals grapples with mental health issues, yet there are only 18 neurologists in the entire country. She highlighted the need for strategic solutions, especially with mental health not covered in health insurance policies. @Dr. Sylvia Mbugua proposed practical steps, advocating for mental health education in school curriculums and leveraging community initiatives like the Nyumba Kumi program, recognizing the role they play in supporting children whose parents may be overstretched. Willice Onyango also mentioned that in light of the challenges posed by difficult economic conditions, many young individuals are striving to overcome poverty, and in the process, find themselves grappling with heightened mental health concerns. To address this Willice Onyango proposed the cultivation of a youth-friendly environment conducive to accessing mental-health services. Comprehensive approaches to mental health care while embracing community-driven interventions create a supportive environment where young individuals feel empowered to prioritize and seek mental health care. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #YouthAdvocacy #Wellness #MentalHealthMatters
