A new HERMES project paper on the exploitation of #renewable energy to #decarbonize #mobility, has been published! PSI Paul Scherrer Institut, an HERMES project partner, published a new study entitled “𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫-𝐭𝐨-𝐗 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬”. In this study, the conceptual design of a system for delivering constant energy supply to a decarbonized urban mobility setting was conducted. Two systems were designed based on battery electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles. The primary energy supply is renewable electricity, converted to H2 in an electrolyzer for fuel cell electric vehicles. Excess electricity is stored as methane or methanol, synthesized using CO2 from biogas upgrading. Technical performance indicators were calculated using data from the city of Zurich. #InnovationFund news 🗞 7️⃣ renewable hydrogen projects will receive €720 million from the #IF23Auction. Together they cover 1.5 Gigawatts of electrolyser capacity which will produce a total volume of 1.58 million tonnes of hydrogen over ten years ⚡💧 This will avoid more than 10 million tonnes of CO2 💨. The seven selected projects submitted bids between €0.37 and €0.48 per kilogram of renewable fuel of non-biological (RFNBO) hydrogen produced and will receive Innovation Fund grants ranging from €8 to €245 million. On this occasion we are linking together the value chain by joining our subsidiary, Quest One, who produce PEM electrolyzers with best-in-class efficiency, used to make renewable (green) hydrogen. Green hydrogen, SNG, green ammonia, and e-methanol enable the energy transition in all sectors by making clean energy usable outside the electricity grids. Of course, CO2 is needed for the production of renewable fuels and chemicals using methanation, methanol synthesis and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. And that takes us back to carbon capture. 💡💬 MITECO submits to public information the future call for proposals for grants for large renewable hydrogen valley projects 🌱🏞️ #MITECO, #hydrogen, #hydrogenovergreen, #NextGenEU, #RePowerEU, #renewableenergy 📜🔋 The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has launched a public hearing on the draft order of bases that will govern the future call for the aid programme for the creation of large renewable hydrogen valleys or clusters, which can be consulted here. The initiative will be endowed with NextGenEU funds linked to component 31 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and the European Commission's RePowerEU mechanism. 🔋🌍 The purpose of these incentives is to promote the large-scale production and consumption of renewable and electrolytic hydrogen, as well as derived fuels, to promote the full integration of this vector in the Spanish energy mix and as a tool to advance in the decarbonisation of different industrial sectors of our economy. 🏭⚡ The future call for aid, which will be managed by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), a body dependent on the MITECO, represents a qualitative and quantitative leap in the prospects for the production and use of renewable hydrogen and derivatives in Spain. The renewable hydrogen clusters or valleys that this initiative aims to promote are key to achieving these objectives by bringing together, in a specific location, multiple stages of the hydrogen value chain; from production, storage and distribution to various users, such as the transport sector, industry and end energy users.
