It’s National Volunteer Week! VLRC’s thrilled to publicly recognize, appreciate and celebrate our wonderful volunteers’ contributions during National Volunteer Week. This year’s theme, “Every Moment Matters,” highlights just how important every volunteer is, especially during this time when we need support more than ever for a national volunteer strategy. Let’s come together to celebrate the collective impact that our boards and committees have made to Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada. Let’s meet our newest board member, Rob Nightingale and we welcome him wholeheartedly! Rob, why do you volunteer? For those in the sight loss community, literally every moment matters. The need for early diagnostic and rehabilitation services can and does affect an individual's outcomes and their quality of life going forward. As a board member of VLRC, it is my desire that my volunteering helps to facilitate this objective. Rob, how do you incorporate the value of “every moment matters” into your approach to volunteering? I incorporate the value of "every moment matters" through timely and consistent participation at the board and subcommittee levels to assist in innovative and expedient delivery of services. What would you tell someone who is considering volunteering on boards or committees, but hasn’t taken the first step yet and why they should get involved? I would highly encourage all individuals to participate in volunteer boards. Based on my own experience, the interaction provides tremendous enrichment and an opportunity to give back to the community at large. #NVW2024 #EveryMomentMatters Image description: Light blue background with black text. The words “National Volunteer Week” are centred at the top. A photo of a smiling, dark-haired man in a dark suit and a blue tie is on the left side of the square background. The words, “Rob Nightingale. Let’s get to know our newest board member and what is his “why” for volunteering” are to the right of the man’s photo. The hashtag, “EveryMomentMatters” is under the photo. The VLRC logo is on the right side.

Angela Parker of Realized Worth and Revere's founder Brian Kurth recorded a conversation they had a couple of years ago. Their discussion is as relevant today as it was then so we are sharing it again in case you missed it the first time. They discuss, among other things, how skills-based volunteering can be a win-win-win for nonprofits, corporate partners, and volunteers when we implement these three things: 1. Invite employees to bring meaning to their volunteer experience. 2. Create space to challenge assumptions, develop empathy, and change behaviors. 3. Position volunteer events as a step on the way to impact, not the end result. Give it a watch and a listen...

🌟 National Volunteer Week 🌟 I've always been a volunteer. My first volunteer assignment was when I was 9 years old helping the school librarian put aways books during the lunch hour. People often ask me how I have time to volunteer; it's just part of who I am and you make time for things that are important to you. Let's talk about how you can fit volunteering into your busy life, pick the right cause to commit to, and the incredible rewards you receive from giving back to your community. 🤔 Fitting Volunteering Into Your Life Feeling overwhelmed with work, family, and other commitments? Don't worry, there are ways to fit volunteering into your schedule. Start by setting aside small chunks of time each week or month to dedicate to a cause that you are passionate about. Whether it's volunteering at a local food bank, mentoring a student, or participating in a community clean-up (Monday is Earth Day!!), every little bit counts. 🤝 Picking the Right Cause to Commit To With so many worthy causes out there, it can be challenging to choose where to focus your time and energy. Start by reflecting on your values, interests, and skills. What causes resonate with you the most? Do you have a specific skill set that could benefit a particular organization? By aligning your volunteer work with your passions and talents, you can make a meaningful impact and feel fulfilled in the process. If you have young kids, make volunteering part of the time you spend together. Show by example, the importance of giving back. 💖 What You Get Out of It Volunteering is not just about giving; it's also about receiving. When you volunteer, you gain valuable experiences, build new skills, and create lasting connections with others who share your passion for making a difference. Moreover, giving back to your community can boost your mental well-being, reduce stress, and increase your sense of purpose and fulfillment. 🌟 This National Volunteer Week, let's celebrate the power of volunteering and the incredible impact it has on individuals and communities. Together, let's make a difference and inspire others to join us in creating a brighter and more compassionate world. 🌟 #NationalVolunteerWeek #Volunteerism #MakeADifference #CommunityEngagement

It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week, a celebration placing the spotlight on inspiring figures whose invaluable seeds of kindness through volunteering are bettering the community and our world in general. Ideas to Observe National Volunteer Week: - Get involved: Do more than applaud; let your impact be felt. Look around your own community to find various ways in which you can lend your support. - Spread the Word: Volunteers are often overlooked. Be part of the movement to call on more volunteers by using your social media handles to share the message. - Say Thank You: Appreciating volunteers goes a long way to making them feel good about their impact and driving them to do more.

Do you know there are important questions to ask yourself before volunteering? In our upcoming webinar, we will be discussing extensively on what volunteering is and the important questions to ask before anyone goes into volunteering. ✨️Why do you want to volunteer? ✨️What volunteer opportunity best fits your career or with your other goals? ✨️How will you maximize the potential in every volunteering experience? You know how you will ask yourself all the questions before you apply for a particular role/position, which is why I will always emphasize volunteering strategically. That's exactly how you should carefully get yourself into any volunteering opportunity. Join me and my team on the 22nd and 23rd of November, alongside the over 100 persons that has registered for this webinar, here is the link to save your spot https://lnkd.in/d8w9CKJv One of the many mistakes I made when I stated volunteering was jumping at every volunteering opportunity I saw around at the time, which later became an issue. How long have you volunteered, and what do you wish you had known earlier?
