I’ll just put this here and we can talk about it. Whether we want people to work onsite or from home, is irrelevant. There’s a growing loss of productivity in part due to a gradual decline in human interaction in the professional setting. A loss of comfort in knowing how to and being willing to engage and collaborate especially in person. It’s not about whether people want to and are capable of working from home, it’s about a loss of human interaction skill that may now be impacting performance due to the work from home environment. As leaders how are you helping your teams be at their best no matter where they work from?

It’s easy to rely on email for everything. However, there are times when a conversation is more effective. Here's why: 1. Clarification: Emails can be misinterpreted. A quick chat allows for immediate clarification and reduces the risk of misunderstandings. 2. Speed: Complex issues often require back-and-forth discussion. Conversations are typically faster and more dynamic than lengthy email threads. 3. Relationship Building: Personal interactions foster stronger relationships and can make collaboration smoother and more effective. 4. Efficiency: A direct conversation can address multiple points in a single exchange, whereas emails might lead to prolonged back-and-forth. Next time you're drafting a long, detailed email, consider if a conversation might be more effective. Sometimes, a quick call is all it takes to resolve issues and move projects forward. #Communication #ProfessionalGrowth #WorkplaceEfficiency

Do you have a team charter ? Employees splitting their time between working from home and coming into the office has become a norm rather than an exception. This shift, offers great flexibility, but presents new challenges in maintaining team cohesion, productivity, and organisational culture. To address these challenges effectively, developing a team charter can be a game-changing strategy for ensuring optimal business outcomes. ⭐️ The Role of a Team Charter A team charter is a formal document that outlines the agreed-upon ways of working within a team. It establishes clear guidelines on roles, responsibilities, communication, and collaboration practices. Having your team develop a team charter together can address the complexities of hybrid work by providing a structured approach to managing both remote and in-office work. ⭐️ A Team Charter provides: 1. Clear Expectations: Sets explicit expectations for availability, communication channels, and meeting protocols, helping to prevent misunderstandings and ensuring that all team members are on the same page. Maybe the team commits to always having their camera on? 2. Enhanced Collaboration: By defining how and when team members should collaborate, a charter helps bridge the gap between remote and in-office work, ensuring that everyone can contribute effectively regardless of their location. An agreement might be to not have meetings before 9:30am to enable school drop off. 3. Fostering Inclusion: It can promote inclusivity by ensuring that both remote and in-office employees have equal opportunities to participate in meetings, decision-making, and other team activities. 4. Consistency in Processes: A charter can standardise processes and practices, reducing variability and ensuring that the team operates efficiently, regardless of where members are working from. 5. Building Team Morale: When everyone understands and agrees on the way they will work together, it fosters a sense of unity and shared purpose, which can significantly boost team morale and engagement. If you’d like a team charter template or to discuss how to approach implementing this, please reach out for a conversation. As technical experts, our career often starts with a deep focus on developing specialised skills and delivering great results. But as we advance in our careers, the challenge shifts from mastering our technical domain to leading teams and driving organisational success. Many of us excel in our technical roles, and transitioning to leadership can be daunting. Effective leadership requires a different set of skills, including strategic thinking, communication, and emotional intelligence. Are you a technical expert looking to enhance your leadership capabilities? Here are a few tips to get started: 1. Embrace Continuous Learning: Leadership is a skill that evolves. Invest in a coach/ professional mentor, attend workshops and training tailored to leadership development. 2. Develop Soft Skills: Focus on communication, empathy, and conflict resolution to better connect with your team and drive collaborative success. 3. Think Strategically: Shift from a task-oriented mindset to a broader view of organisational goals and how your team's work aligns with them. 4. Empower Your Team: Delegate effectively, trust your team's capabilities, and provide them with the support and resources they need to thrive. The transition from technical expert to effective leader can be hard, particularly if you attempt it on your own. The key to success is getting help. What strategies have you found effective in making this transition? Share your experiences, I’d love to hear them. #LeadershipDevelopment #TechnicalSkills #CareerGrowth #TeamSuccess #mentoring
