The Clone Wars: A Race to the Bottom? In gaming, innovation often comes at a price—but what happens when that price is just imitation? The rise of Bullet Heaven games is a textbook example. What started as the genre-defining brilliance of Vampire Survivors has spiraled into an avalanche of lookalikes (Temtem Swarm, Spellbook Demonslayers, and more). These games rake in players by the millions, promising quick dopamine hits and straightforward mechanics. But as the market floods with clones, we have to ask: is this iteration, or are we cannibalizing creativity? Here’s what we see happening: Genre Saturation: New clones pop up faster than players can keep up. Each one tweaks the formula slightly—new skins, minor mechanics—but rarely breaks new ground. It's a race for short-term gains in a crowded market. Lower Risk, Lower Reward: Cloning games minimizes development risk. But it also dampens long-term player loyalty. When every game feels interchangeable, where's the emotional investment? Missed Opportunities: Studios following the leader might be leaving untapped innovation on the table. What if the energy spent cloning Vampire Survivors was directed at crafting the next breakout genre? The Bullet Heaven craze shows the potential of a simple, tightly designed formula—but also the danger of an industry chasing trends to exhaustion. True growth happens when studios dare to branch out, even at the risk of failure. #VC #Gaming

Gaming is of course an important industry for me professionally, but also as a consumer. Almost all of my game consumption is on Steam so I think this info is pretty accurate. Only thing that is missing is Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios that I have enjoyed a lot this year with my wife on PS5. 💎In the top 5 there are a couple of Paradox Interactive's grand strategy titles, a grand strategy game set in Warhammer fantasy universe and two "social" games. 1. Dota 2, with over 10 000 hours in this game I still don't feel that the game as repetitive and it still has its charm. Best enjoyed with friends (existing or made during the game)! 2. Europa Universalis IV, somehow I had put off this incredible strategy game set in 1444-1821 for a long time, since I thought it would feel outdated and the next iteration is "just around the corner". I was so wrong. If you love the history of this period and/or analysis paralysis, I highly recommend this game! 3. Total War: Warhammer III, this is the final part of the trilogy set in Warhammer fantasy universe. I have been a long time fan of the Total War series, and I honestly think that this is one of the best games in the series. It had a rocky launch, but Creative Assembly has done incredible effort to make it such a great experience. 4. Imperator: Rome, this is one of the less known Paradox grand strategy games, but I think it deserves more attention. Unfortunately the game has already lived its cycle, but mods still provide great new content to the game. If you find yourself again thinking about the Roman Empire, please do yourself a favor and pick this game up! 5. Apex Legends, even more than Dota, this game is best enjoyed with friends. I don't really like the battle royale format, but good company makes this game worthwhile. 💭 Which games took lion's share of your 2024? Valve corporation SEGA Respawn Entertainment Electronic Arts (EA) Games Workshop Ltd Wizards of the Coast #gaming #steamreplay

The sheer collection of heroes and villains in Marvel Contest of Champions is positively overwhelming. From legendary characters to original creations, developer Kabam is always traversing the Marvel multiverse in unique ways. During our recent chat with game director Bryan O’Hara and principal creative writer Tyler Nicol, we dive head first into what collaborations could appear in the future, and what the debut of Marvel Rivals means for the fighter. Undoubtedly one of the coolest things Marvel Contest of Champions has going for it is the game’s continued relationship with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kabam isn’t afraid to bring players a dazzling selection of characters based on their big screen iterations. However, some characters have ultimately been left behind as Kabam’s focus has changed, as Nicol tells me that “even with an average of two new champions a month finding their way to The Contest there are always some characters that we tragically have to leave behind and move along from.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/efUqCmeC For all the latest mobile, Nintendo Switch, and industry news, follow Pocket Tactics, the biggest mobile and Switch gaming site in the world! #gaming #mobile

This month, we are diving into gaming as part of our monthly inspiration and have picked out five games that we find inspiring! 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Released in 2011 by Supergiant Games (is it old enough to be called a classic at this point?). Beyond the astounding and almost cozy aesthetics, the narration is spot-on as you help "The Kid" understand what happened to the world during "The Calamity". Check out their other games as well. https://lnkd.in/ecp8dhW4 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆. Anyone who is a bit into comic books recognizes the style of Moebius instantly, and that’s, of course, how Synergy caught our attention too. The objective of Synergy is to build a colony in a strange and hostile world while respecting the ecosystem. The game just entered the beta phase, and we've just started trying it out, and so far, it’s a lot of fun! https://lnkd.in/eQEACMqW 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲. A Swedish classic released by Dice, known for its stunning visuals. However, the music made by Solar Fields/Magnus Birgersson is enough reason to give this game a try. https://lnkd.in/dv7kR4cP 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻. We don't know much about the upcoming sequel since it's still in development, but the colors are just awesome! https://lnkd.in/gar8qsuY 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆. Loved by cat lovers everywhere. The story follows a stray cat who falls into a strange city filled with mutated bacteria and evil sentinels. Other activities include sleeping, meowing, scratching, and nuzzling up to the robot inhabitants of the city. If you ever wondered what it's like being a cat, this game is a first step to finding out :) https://lnkd.in/dmZCDxcy
