#AAO2024: Systemic characteristics including lower 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure (BP) and systolic BP are associated with faster glaucoma progression, as monitored using standard automated perimetry (SAP) mean deviation, according to a poster introduced at the annual meeting of American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in Chicago, October 18 to 21, 2024. New Study Highlights Dichoptic Therapy for Amblyopia! Published in Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, research shows that dichoptic therapy significantly improves visual acuity, binocularity, and stereopsis in patients with mild to moderate amblyopia, including those older than 8 years. Out of 59 patients treated, 82.4% experienced better vision, and nearly all showed progress in at least one parameter. I'm pleased to announce our latest study published in International Ophthalmology: "Canaloplasty via an ab-interno surgical technique in patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG)." Our findings highlight ab-interno canaloplasty as a safe and effective approach for #PACG—a glaucoma type traditionally not indicated for MIGS procedures. In PACG, canaloplasty achieved significant reductions in intraocular pressure (IOP) and lowered medication reliance, presenting an encouraging management option for this challenging glaucoma type. These findings may be particularly relevant for clinicians in Asia, where angle-closure glaucoma is more prevalent.
