Physical Education Teacher at Amity International School / Experienced PE Teacher / Previous Head of Year / Previous Subject Lead for PE ITT

As a PE teacher and Head of Year, I see every day how movement can transform not just bodies, but minds and attitudes. This powerful video from Youth Sport Trust is a reminder of the role physical activity plays in shaping young lives. It’s not just about fitness – it’s about confidence, resilience, and joy. In the UK, fewer than 1 in 5 children are active enough to be considered healthy. It’s a startling statistic – and one that makes me worry the picture might be similar here in the UAE. That’s why we’ve made it a priority to introduce exciting initiatives this year, on top of our regular PE and swimming offerings. Our Wake and Shake program has energized students at the start of their day, setting the tone for focus and positivity in lessons. We’ve also embraced the Daily Mile initiative, giving students the chance to step outside, get moving, and refresh their minds during the school day. In addition, our co-curricular activities (CCA) program continues to grow, offering a diverse range of opportunities for students to find the joy of movement – from team sports to fitness clubs to creative activities. The results: students who engage with these initiatives are more confident, focused, and motivated both in and out of the classroom. Proof that fostering a love for exercise is about so much more than physical health – it’s about empowering happier, healthier young people. Thank you, Youth Sport Trust, for this powerful reminder of why what we do matters.

Today is World Children's Day and we hope that you agree that this video shares a powerful message, that our young people do not have access to the PE, sport and play that they need to live happy, healthy and active lives. Together, we can do more to support our young people. ❤️ Our Healthy Movers programme improves children’s physical development, supports their social and emotional wellbeing and creates healthy, happy children that make a good level of development across the EYFS curriculum. 🙌 From speaking to your early years setting about becoming a Healthy Movers supporter to highlighting the issues to you local MP to stress the importance of movement for young people, there are so many ways that you can get involved with our mission.
