These are our conclusions from #COP16, BioCarbon Standard reflected on the inspiring advancements in biodiversity protection. We are proud to align our standards with these global goals, ensuring that nature-based solutions are at the forefront of our approach. Key insights include: 🌱 A unified path: National Biodiversity and Climate Adaptation Plans now align with the Kunming-Montreal Framework. This calls for USD 200 billion annually by 2030 to support conservation efforts, especially in developing nations. 🌿 Public access and inclusivity: For the first time, CO16's Green Zone welcomed the public, recognizing Indigenous, local, and Afro-descendant communities as “custodians of nature.” 🌐 Technological innovation: New technologies like artificial intelligence strengthen conservation initiatives, improving data access and analysis. BioCarbon Standard is committed to advancing these goals with high-quality standards for sustainability and biodiversity protection. #BioCarbonStandard #CO16 #BiodiversityConservation

All main media channels should be talking about COP16, if you ask me. But are they .. ? Yes, I'm talking about the COP for Biodiversity, that kicked off in Cali, Colombia this Monday. Why is the media not talking about it every day, as I believe they should? Why is Biodiversity so important? Why is global action on biodiversity so relevant? The simplest way I can put it : The best and only smart way to counter Climate crises, is nature-based. The most healthy and smart way to counter Health crises, is nature-based. The best that production companies can do to ensure a viable future, is nature-based. Nature is what can keep much needed equilibrium in our ecosystems and counter climate deregulation Nature can keep us healthy It is Nature that offers the ressources, raw materials and energy for our food and products If we make peace with Nature, see that we ARE Nature, and we take care of her as we take care of ourselves.. then Nature's diversity will so its work. You may ask yourself ... what can I do ? The hardest is sometimes not knowing what to do.. This is a healthy and valid response. My answer is : Stay curious ! Learn, question, challenge and keep learning. And among the various options, I particularly value the Fresque de la Biodiversité (in English, French or Spanish). A simple and engaging workshop accessible for all, young and old, expert and novice. Lets learn about what is happening this week and next in Colombia, at the COP16. Already, 54 organizations co-signed our COP16 Call to Action to prioritize the just transition for nature and climate. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eW4sQeJa While 30x30 is crucial, it'll take much more to halt and reverse biodiversity loss—we need to reshape key sectors and economic plans. The CBD review of countries’ new National Biodiversity Strategies shows that the Global Biodiversity Framework's “mainstreaming” targets are receiving less attention than more traditional “conservation” targets. No surprise, they’re harder to address! All the more reason for COP16 to strengthen resolve to mainstream biodiversity across sectors.

Taking a step back from what's happening at #COP29, the CORE Markets team has just published a summary of what happened at #COP16 - the UN Biodiversity Conference: https://lnkd.in/gmwKvcXi In short, we made an inch of a progress in closing the $700 billion nature finance gap. This inch is equal to $0.163 billion... On the bright side, #biodiversitymarket frameworks have been on fire🔥 Much progress is seen from the IAPB and their network. Verra also launched a new Nature Credit standard under their SD VISta program. So there is a lot more positive impact that is sitting on our horizon! Below is an infographic that shows how biodiversity credits can help to deliver the global biodiversity goals:

🐝 Biodiversity represents a crucial factor in mitigation (thanks to the absorption of CO2) and adaptation to climate change. 🦋 Forum per la Finanza Sostenibile - ItaSIF has just released the paper “Sustainable finance and biodiversity”, aiming at enhancing the understanding of the topic and increasing awareness of the economic and financial value of biodiversity. 🐛 Biodiversity and climate change are profoundly interconnected. Indeed, climate affects ecosystem balances: under a scenario aligned with the 1.5°C target increase in global average temperatures, the negative consequences on biodiversity are less severe than under a scenario of a 2°C target increase. Biodiversity, in turn, determines significant climate effects and is a crucial factor in mitigation (through CO2 absorption) and adaptation (Finance for Biodiversity Foundation 2023). 🍃For example, coastal, riverine, and mangrove forests are crucial in protecting against extreme climate events. Tree roots provide defence against waves and act as natural reservoirs during heavy rainfall; conversely, in areas where forest cover has been reduced or even eliminated, there is an increase in landslides and property damage (Dunn Rutherford and Liske 2021). 🔎 Read the full paper here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dmZHr5wj
