Many senior level discussions for large, longer duration projects concern the appropriate levels of contingency and management reserves. A less than consistent understanding of what each of those terms mean and imply is often apparent. Recently, this same confusion around contingency and management reserves has been seen in one of the largest governmental programs underway. This lack of a consistent understanding and now the confusion expanding to governmental programs triggered writing this Executive Insight published by the National Academy of Construction. It has now reached 2000 reads and I thought I’d share it again.

Improving scope 3 data accuracy sounds dull. In fact is a key imperative to unlock action - without it you can't build a business case for change or understand the most impactful way to allocate effort. If you're at FOOTPRINT+ next Thursday, do join to hear myself, Joe Croft, James Shears and Lewis Howard share practical guidance and real world experience on the topic.
Are you attending FOOTPRINT+ next week? Our expert, Bob Burgoyne, who specialises in the construction, property and infrastructure sector, will speak on the ‘Measuring Scope 3 carbon in fit out’ panel at 10:45 BST, Thursday 9 May. He’s joined by James Shears and Joe Croft from Overbury, and Lewis Howard from BRAE. The event explores how technology and materials, energy systems and data can work together to drive down buildings’ carbon emissions. If you would like to connect with Bob at the event, please reach out.

Interested in the behavior of timber-framed shear walls? 🏗 Then check out our lastest publication "Shear resistance of Oriented Strand Board panel sheatings in timber-framed shear walls" in the Journal Engineering Structures.
I am excited to announce my first publication „Shear resistance of Oriented Strand Board panel sheathings in timber-framed shear walls“. The work presented is part of my PhD project, with the overall goal of developing a method to model, design and construct timber-framed shear walls with large openings. The full paper is available here: 👉🏻https://lnkd.in/d5cZpeSM The project is a cooperation project between Empa - Structural Engineering Research Laboratory, Berner Fachhochschule BFH and ETH Zürich - Chair of Timber Structures. It is financially supported by Bundesamt für Umwelt BAFU and Holzbau Schweiz, SWISS TIMBER ENGINEERS and ancotech AG are involved as project partners.

Those of you who've followed me and EuroACE - Energy Efficient Buildings over the years will know that we strongly believe that improving building energy efficiency significantly is absolutely essential to the green transition: it reduces bills and energy poverty, improves health and well-being, enhances Europe's energy independence, stimulates the economy, and generates green jobs, particularly in construction. Now we have a revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. What comes next is implementation. Join us for this virtual conference to discuss how best to go about it: - what do we already have in place? - what do we need to do? - how can we make sure we succeed on the above? #EPBD #FitFor55 #PrioritisePeople
