Cybersecurity is becoming a crowded place, yet faces a shortage of #skills globally. To address this shortage, concerted focus on including #women in this field offers a tangible solution. Thankfully, there are initiatives that bring diversity, inclusion and #equity to this field. A bright example is the #HerCyberTracks initiative by ITU - a global leader in cybersecurity governance. This five-months-long program brings together women from diverse backgrounds through a solid learning and connecting journey. This is much more than a “tokenistic inclusion” initiative. This is core to #cybersecurity governance, capacity, and effectiveness. I had the honor of mentoring and learning from Rina Halimi and Anita Ljuljdjurovic as part of #HerCyberTracks who are establishing themselves as cyber experts in their home region. Keep up the excellent work Yasmine Idrissi Azzouzi from the #ITU and Alissa Frenkel from the #GIZ and the broader expert team! Her CyberTracks by the ITU equips women with the skills and mentorship needed for cybersecurity careers. Evidently, the cybersecurity landscape is dynamic and a constantly changing one that presents exciting opportunities in the digital era. It comes with its own set of challenges and uncertainties. There is undeniably an increasing demand globally for skilled cybersecurity professionals. There are however diversity and capacity issues. Her CyberTracks is an ambitious attempt to address the global lack of diversity in cybersecurity efforts. According to ITU, as of 2023, disturbingly less than 26% of those who work in cybersecurity worldwide are women. Cybersecurity just like other technology fields is not a male field. While cybersecurity itself is gender-neutral, the industry needs to be more representative of all people. A big and unique positive is that there are no age restrictions. The target audience is women in selected countries in Africa and Europe/CIS regions. Africa’s rapid digital adoption and low cybersecurity awareness drive up demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals and entrepreneurs. How can women in Africa be part of Her CyberTracks? Interested? Explore its focus areas, eligibility, and issues. https://lnkd.in/d5wt8-tQ

On world book day my usual stack of fiction has Crimedotcom on the top of the ever growing pile, as I am currently studying Cybersecurity with the support of my employer Three Ireland via UCD. As I always say to my two little bookworms you can never be bored when you have a book in your hand and they went off to school this morning with Harry Potter and Diary of a wimpy kid for a day of fun and reading. How lucky are they! As I upskill and delve deeper as part of my studies in Cybersecurity this field is certainly widening my eyes to the level of ever increasing threat to business. With International women's day tomorrow the irony of studying cybersecurity in a heavily male dominated field isn't lost on me with business struggling to fill positions with women currently working in only 24% of the roles. Diversity is Security is the message from Cyber Women in Ireland and with mentorship, employer support for women in business this gender gap will hopefully close year on year. #worldbookday #cybersecurity #iwd2024

While preparing for a podcast I was invited to participate in today, the host mentioned something interesting: he noticed more women getting into cybersecurity. Additionally, I've encountered various discussions online suggesting that cybersecurity is female-centric due to the emergence of women-focused foundations and specific sponsorships aimed at encouraging women to pursue careers in technology. But these ideas miss some important facts. For years, men have predominantly held positions in cybersecurity, with not-so-many women in the field often finding themselves as the "only woman in the room" in professional settings. The reason it seems like more women are joining cybersecurity now is because of the hard work of women who came before. Now, thanks to their efforts, we see more women entering cybersecurity. These forerunners, embodying this year's theme of Leadership, actively bridge the gap, encouraging young women and girls to join the field. Today, I celebrate these leaders and fellow sisters who defied expectations and created opportunities for the next generation. Here's to them, and to all the future female cybersecurity Leaders including myself! Happy International Girls In ICT Day! #GirlsinICT #cybersecurity #recruiters
