The Double-Edged Sword of Mechanization in Kenya’s Agricultural Sector: Balancing Progress with Soil Health Mechanization is undeniably transforming agriculture in Kenya. The rise of organizations providing mechanization services is a game-changer, making advanced farming equipment accessible to smallholder farmers who can’t afford to buy their own tractors. This has led to increased efficiency, higher productivity, and the potential for enhanced economic growth. However, there’s a significant downside that needs urgent attention. Many mechanization providers are not adequately cleaning their machines between farms, leading to the unintentional spread of soilborne diseases and pests. These pathogens and pests can remain in the soil for years, causing long-term damage to crop yields and soil health. This silent crisis undermines the very benefits mechanization aims to bring. https://lnkd.in/dFQwDvFQ
