As the US navigates a shortage of tradespeople, trades education is increasingly important. The Western Electrical Contractors Association, Inc. is using VR to train electrical apprentices. The impact:  ⚡ 1,200 students participated in WECA’s in house VR experience so far 👍 Positive results on competency assessments ⛑ A safe and immersive environment for apprentices to practice and master essential electrical skills, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Phil and I are moving toward a more mindful, inclusive global community that encourages individuals to continue creating what they want most in life, growing and contributing toward the greater good in a workable fashion. We want graduates who have benefited from our training to help spread the word we have a unique proprietary process that opens doors to possibility unlike any other 6-day, 6-night immersive experience. Full participators in our programs learn how to stretch their line of ownership for producing significant, positive results - in their professional and personal arenas.

In this installment of our three-question Q&A series with the amazing interns in our Office of Digital Learning (ODL), meet Sophia Zhang, a rising sophomore in the Stanford University School of Engineering studying computer science. Sophia—or Soap to those who know her well, which we’re lucky to say we do now—is one of two interns working on extended reality (XR) projects this summer. XR encompasses virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). (1) When you applied for the internship, what interested you most about working in the Office of Digital Learning? Soap: As someone who loves both game dev and edtech, I was super excited to combine my interests by experimenting with XR in education. (2) What project or assignment are you particularly excited about having the chance to work on while you’re here? Soap: A multiplayer VR escape room for language learning and an AR multivariable calculus visualizer! (3) In what ways do you see the experience you’re gaining in the ODL applying to your future career? Soap: I’d love to build more fun stuff in the XR space!
