#CareerJournal 3: I started 2023 by learning from a Metaverse course provided by my college Panimalar Institute Of Technology in collaboration with Panimalar Engineering College -CSE Department. We were taught by professionals from Munjal Birmingham City University Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship As an overly extrovert, my team decided to appoint me as the leader. Thanks to my team members Prisha C, Jaya Varsha R, Keerthi Devendiran, Jiivitha Arul kumar, Santhoshini Sri K.G and Praveena Suresh, we were able to collaborate and create a Mars Training VR Simulation (M4RS = Mars for us). The overall program involved with both learning and project creation, enabling us to create an application within a time bound. Personally, it was exciting and stressful, but I am glad as a leader I was able to push my team through our tough times. During this time, I was also able to make many friends who also pushed me beyond my limits to understand the Metaverse Realm. So thank you Suriya P and Anandh S.P This has to be the first ever achievement in my journey, as we won 5th place, and we had an amazing opportunity to Intern in MMBeauty. Your apprentices + grads WILL forget 90% of what's taught at induction.. Why? Because humans are forgetting machines.. When you first learn something that information disappears at an exponential rate Now combine that with the nerves and unknown of your first job! So how can we help them remember? ➡️ Reinforce it! Create time blocks for them to practice/review material and provide videos, checklists, and summaries for pre-/post-learning to digest and understand in their own time. ➡️ Make it relevant Let managers know what they'll be learning + when (+ give guidance) so it's easy to create opportunities for exposure to the skill they're learning in their role. ➡️ Make it interactive Actually make it fun - boring training does not stick. In this installment of our three-question Q&A series with the amazing interns in our Office of Digital Learning (ODL), meet Sophia Zhang, a rising sophomore in the Stanford University School of Engineering studying computer science. Sophia—or Soap to those who know her well, which we’re lucky to say we do now—is one of two interns working on extended reality (XR) projects this summer. XR encompasses virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). (1) When you applied for the internship, what interested you most about working in the Office of Digital Learning? Soap: As someone who loves both game dev and edtech, I was super excited to combine my interests by experimenting with XR in education. (2) What project or assignment are you particularly excited about having the chance to work on while you’re here? Soap: A multiplayer VR escape room for language learning and an AR multivariable calculus visualizer! (3) In what ways do you see the experience you’re gaining in the ODL applying to your future career? Soap: I’d love to build more fun stuff in the XR space!
