What excites us the most at Meldgaard is putting an end to the 'waste from waste'. Seeing... ... the recycled metals from bottom ash being given new life in cars, cans and foil, or bottom ash being repurposed as aggregate definitely provides a sustainable solution. So we thought we'd create a film showing just this. With thanks to Zoom Film. 🌍 Europe produces around 450,000 tons of used liner and 130,000 tons of matrix waste annually in the labeling industry. CELAB Europe is tackling this by bringing together the self-adhesive label value chain to collect and recycle used release liners and matrix streams. 📈 Self-adhesive labels are crucial in the labeling industry, but their production creates significant waste that is particularly challenging to recycle. CELAB and Ubuntoo are working to find innovative solutions for this problem, such as biochar production and construction materials. 📚 Discover more about label waste recycling initiatives and industry trends in our recent newsletter, which you can sign up for on our website! 👉https://lnkd.in/e3JGD9UM. a very lengthy but EXTREMELY INSIGHTFULL webinar packed with actual information!! The challenges are clear, the opportunities enormous... It has become clear that EPR systems will play an important role in the transition towards recycling efficiency. Thinking about textiles content in mattresses... Imagine that all mattresses do contain a QR/RFID digital identifier, supporting the DPP obligation.... In Belgium, Holland and France, mattresses are already being dismantled but the textile waste fraction is nearly worthless and diverted to landfill or incinerated. However, they contain interesting quantities of usable textiles... In those 3 countries alone, 10 million mattresses with each 2,5 kg (est.) of textile waste can be easily redirected once they hold a DPP. What if those 25.000T of waste with approx. 60% PES content, concentrated in those 3 countries could be redirected to recyclers instead? 15.000T @ 3 EUR/kg? Could this be achieved by having all mattresses equipped with a DPP? Would this not be interesting feedstock to start up recycling plants? What do we miss here? Other countries with a lot more potential like Austria, Switserland, Spain and Germany are following quickly with the installation of their EPR bodies. A potential approach could be that EPR bodies, integrate the DPP cost into their fee... so that brands/consumer do not have to bear an additional cost for the DPP on top of the EPR fee. Again, imagine for a while that all mattresses do have a QR.RFID tag integrated? Mattress dismantlers would simply be enabled to convert waste into value! Identified waste is the new raw material that will serve as feedstock for recyclers. any thoughts? TripleR Rik Holvoet
