To further increase drinking water safety, the European Commission has updated the EU Drinking Water Directive to limit the amount of harmful substances, such as lead, found in drinking water. The revised Directive was implemented in 2021 and Member States were given two years to transpose it into local legislation. A key change in the updated Directive is the reduction of the maximum lead limit for drinking water from 10 μg/L to 5 μg/L. Accordingly, questions are being asked about lead-leaching alloys in water distribution lines and fittings, with growing interest in the availability and viability of lead-free alternative materials. To discuss these changes, we sat down with Helmut Richter — Biochemist, Head of Technical Administration and former Head of Quality at the TGM (State Research Institute), member of the Presidential Council at Austrian Standards, and Authorized Consultant Read here: https://lnkd.in/gMMggwq2 #future #caring #collaboration #wienerberger #pipelife #drinkingwater

Our Intervention of "Safe Drinking Water" - Introducing Bio-Sand Water Filter. The bio-sand filter is a modified form of the traditional slow sand filter in such a way that the filters can be built on a smaller scale and can be operated intermittently. These modifications make the bio-sand filter suitable for household or small-group use. The bio-sand filter can be produced locally anywhere in the world using readily available materials

Currently, they only measure whether drinking water samples exceed 100ng/l for 48 individual types of PFAS, but water companies will soon have to enforce a limit of 100 nanograms per litre (ng/l) cumulatively for 48 different PFAS.

Is your drinking water safe to drink? We've been assured for years that our municipal water supply was the best but now that comfortable assertion is proving to be untrue with levels of chemicals up to 140 times what is safe. Ironically we are now being told to drink bottled water (ignoring that some bottled waters are essentially tap water as well as the impact of the plastic leaching into the water). It's why we do what we do. Check out why we say our water is better for people as well as the planet. https://lnkd.in/gfvpCtfd
There are ‘forever chemicals’ in our drinking water. Should standards change to protect our health?

Chlorination is not the harmless universal safe drinking water solution once thought. Researchers have discovered a previously unknown toxic compound, the chloronitramide anion, in drinking water. This raises urgent questions about the unseen risks posed by chemical disinfection methods many rely on daily. At Solvatten, we believe in a better way. Using the power of the sun, our solar-powered water purifiers deliver safe, hot water without the need for chemicals. No hidden byproducts. Let’s rethink how we secure clean water for families worldwide. We can choose safety, sustainability, and peace of mind. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gCHSJpgz

Understanding the Importance of TDS in Drinking Water 💧 When it comes to the water we drink, ensuring quality and safety is paramount. One key metric that often gets overlooked is Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). TDS measures the combined content of all inorganic and organic substances in water, such as minerals, salts, and metals. It is expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/L) or parts per million (ppm). While some level of TDS is essential for a healthy mineral balance, excessive levels can impact taste, safety, and overall quality. Here’s a quick guide to TDS levels in drinking water: ✅ 0-50 ppm: Ideal for industrial use or distilled water (not recommended for regular consumption). 💧 50-150 ppm: Excellent for drinking, with a natural balance of minerals. 👍 150-300 ppm: Generally acceptable for human consumption. ⚠️ 300-500 ppm: High, but within the permissible limit set by the WHO (500 ppm). 🚫 Above 500 ppm: Not recommended, as it may indicate contamination or undesirable taste. Monitoring TDS is critical not just for health 🏥 but also for understanding water’s impact on appliances, agriculture 🌱, and industrial processes 🏭. Investing in good filtration systems and regular testing can help maintain optimal water quality for both domestic and commercial use. What’s the TDS level of your drinking water? 🤔 If you’re not sure, it might be time to check. Let’s prioritize better water for a healthier future! 🌍 #WaterQuality #TDS #HealthAndSafety #WaterTesting #Sustainability 💦
