Last Friday, our Nourishing Norfolk Network lead Billie went to The Pantry, Kenninghall to see the launch of Wonderbag! Working with Feeding Britain, we are piloting the initiative to explore this low-cost, low/no-energy cooking solution for people in the UK who are struggling with energy prices. Listen to Heidi from the Pantry talk to BBC Norfolk about the benefits of the eco-friendly Wonderbag in her community - from saving money on fuel to supporting older people to have hot meals safely 🥘 The Wonderbag represents much of what we stand for at Norfolk Community Foundation - a community-focused solution to a challenge facing communities which also takes its environmental impact seriously. Deceptively simple, this product could have a transformative effect by enabling people - especially those with limited access to cooking facilities - the opportunity to prepare hot food safely without using excess energy. Furthermore, the South African not-for-profit will be donating £5 to our partner Feeding Britain for each bag sold - as well as giving bags away to those who need them most.

West Sussex County Council and Biffa have partnered to launch the Waste Prevention Community Grant Fund! 💡 This initiative offers grants of up to £5,000 to support community groups, charities, CICs, and social enterprises in delivering innovative projects to reduce household waste. Mike Thair, Director of Treatment at Biffa, said: "We want communities to think differently about waste—repair, reuse, recycle before throwing away. This fund is an exciting opportunity to support local initiatives and ingenuity to prevent and reduce waste across West Sussex." 📅 Applications open January 2025! Many of our projects will benefit future generations – clean energy is essential for the long term wellbeing of people and planet. But for thousands of children, this winter is life-threatening in an already precarious situation. War and climate change have led to more children needing help than ever before. Right now, Redd Barna is working to provide children and families with warm clothes, winter boots, wool blankets, heaters, and other protection to help them survive. Therefore we at Cloudberry Clean Energy have given this year's Christmas gift to Redd Barna, thereby contributing to helping the children who need it most. In addition to our donation to Redd Barna, from the Cloudberry Group, our local offices have chosen to support local charities and initiatives in Eskilstuna, Gothenburg and Karlstad. Contributing to the important work of Göteborgs Stadsmission, Karlstads Stadsmission and local sports organisations Kjula IF and Jäders IF in the community near our windfarm Sundby. Our vision is where buying new is the last resort and nothing is wasted. Reusable items are redistributed for their second and third useful lives. If items fail, they’re diverted into repair and reintroduced later. Total money saved by the Warp It community is £41,513,089, while waste diverted from landfill has reached 5,485,275 kg. What happens to end-of-line stock? Well, we hate throwing anything away, so we looked into how end-of-line stock can be used and came across our local scrap store. They repurpose unused or excess stock from local businesses for use in education and creative play. Here's what they had to say: "The continued support of Click Spares to our local charity is hugely valued, to say the least. As a reuse charity aiming to reduce waste sent to landfill and support affordable creative play opportunities for all, it's with Click Spares’ support that surplus stock or unneeded resources are sent our way. It helps us achieve that and offers us a resource that we can reuse, re-imagine, or even swap for more. What would otherwise be a recurring waste cost for one local business has become a valued resource and a valuable trade for a variety of other areas’ waste resources across the UK. From garden cushions used to create reading areas in local youth clubs to the discontinued stock of TV remotes played with by toddlers at a playgroup, there is very little we can’t find a use for. We are incredibly thankful for Click Spares’ support over many years now. Working together in this way continues to make our local community stronger for the future, too." They stole the safe, which was bolted to the floor, but left everything else. Even though we say everything that comes back from the dump is a treasure, honestly, we don’t have much of value. We’re a scrappy nonprofit that works with limited resources & makes do with what comes to us. Our technology is outdated. The space is cramped. The plumbing is leaking. The windows are thin. The heating & air conditioning escape out the windows & doors faster than you can blink. Some customers complain about how expensive things may be getting & others say we undervalue the work we put into things. And still our dedicated staff & volunteers show up each week to wipe the pigeon poop off that discarded side table we saved from the dump & put a new coat of paint on. It’s not pretty or easy work, but we do it in the hope that each day more people will see value in the things that are being thrown away. We live in such a beautiful natural world that is being utterly inundated with trash. We need to slow down. Take a look at the beauty in the things we already own. Learn new skills to fix them as they age. Think creatively about how to reuse them if they’re beyond repair. Help one another by sharing our knowledge & resources. Coincidentally, we are doing a soft fundraising campaign for the month of August, so this feels like a weird coincidence. Here we are asking for help when instead we had things taken away. Are we upset? Sure. But it’s only fired up our determination even more to see this nonprofit thrive. I still can’t quite believe it, but a very generous donor has agreed to match up to $10,000 of any donations this month. Take a moment to let that sink in. We are floored by their offer, but can’t do it without you. Any support you can offer— even $5—would help us be more secure as an organization. This break-in may be a setback, but it doesn’t diminish our determination to keep growing as an organization. We have so much to look forward to this year!"
