A disease that not only affects the patient but can destroy families! When a dear friend was diagnosed it took me by surprise but her departure has left a hole in my life that I will never recover from. 🩷 TheDriveGroup celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month and here are some important facts. 🎀 🩷 Australian Facts – 1. Every day 58 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer 2. 1 in 7 women and 1 in 550 MEN are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. 3. Every year over 3,300 people in Australia (including 33 men) will die from breast cancer. That’s 9 Australians a day dying from the disease. 🎀 🩷 New Zealand Facts – 1. In NZ, approximately 25 men and 3300 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year 2. Over 99% of breast cancer cases occur in women. About 70% - 75% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer and about 80% of women who die from it are aged 50 years or older. 3. Nine New Zealand women, on average, will hear the news today that they have breast cancer. 🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷🎀 🩷 Things you can do every day that can significantly lower your chance of dying of breast cancer through early detection (TLC): Touch - Touch is about using your hands to feel for changes that aren’t normal for you. This may be a lump, thickened area, or anything that feels different from any other area in your breasts. Look - Look is a very important part of TLC, as some breast cancers are detected by visual changes to your breast or nipples Check - Getting Checked can be scary after you find a change that doesn’t feel or look normal, but it’s important to get any concerning signs checked out by your GP, even if you’ve had a mammogram recently.
