Another excellent paper at #JMXR! Journal of Medical Extended Reality This paper focuses on a use case for #virtualreality in #healthcare that I know quite a bit about; specifically, #VR for chronic #pain. What is unique, and important, is that the application is in the Veteran population. The aim was to assess pain reductions when VR was used in an outpatient setting. Pain intensity decreased by an average of 22% when comparing pre- and post immersion pain scores, and by 12.7% when comparing baseline pain scores with the end of the analysis. Patients also reported that the use of VR reduced their stress, decreased pain, and improved their mood, and some participants were able to reduce use of their as-needed pain medications with VR. This study shows once again that integrating advanced technologies like VR into healthcare can significantly enhance patient outcomes. I’m a strong believer in using these technologies to create personalized, patient-focused solutions that relieve pain and improve overall well-being. Great find and impressive study. Thanks for sharing, Todd.
This is wonderful, thanks for sharing. I love seeing studies that share the hardware & software used and why. It’s great to have that understanding in reasoning behind choosing such. I am curious if those in the study went beyond & explored other applications too.
Pain management is but one facet of home care, and chronic condition management. It's exciting that there is real attention being focused on what can be done in the home setting, and why it can be more effective than ever, when approached with the right resources, assumptions and objectives. #goodwork Amazing stats: "According to Nahin et al., approximately 126 million adults in the United States suffer from chronic pain, and within this group up to 40 million patients face severe levels of pain on a frequent basis. This is a huge concern as it is estimated that more Americans suffer from chronic pain than those suffering from cancer, diabetes, and cardiac disease combined."
