Today, we have our #SpotlightOn Ben Dowling ! We took part in an engaging fireside panel with Ben, Deputy CEO of Unloc and former Portsmouth City Council Councillor, as part of the The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) Empowering Young Changemakers event at Mettricks Guildhall. Ben shared his inspiring journey from co-founding Unloc at the age of 19 to becoming a key figure in local politics. He discussed the importance of young people getting involved in politics, even if their passions lie elsewhere, and what it really means to be a changemaker in today’s world. Key takeaways from the panel included: Why young people should consider politics, even if they have other career interests. How changemaking in politics is all about creating positive, impactful change. Practical steps for young people to get started in politics This event is just one example of the collaboration between the Business and IP Centre Southampton, Southampton and The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) to inspire and support the next generation of leaders in Southampton and beyond. #YouthLeadership #Changemakers #Politics #BIPCSouthampton #RSA #SocialImpact #Unloc #SouthamptonEvents

Doing more. This was the very reason we were formed over 7 years now by our founder Karen Orton. Frustrated at the lack of action the recruitment industry was taking to create a fairer workplace, Scoutess was born. Working with the most underrepresented diverse talent in the world, we set about educating, connecting and supporting the career journeys of those who were previously overlooked! Showing our clients how diversity drives innovation and business growth, whilst maximising the capability of our candidates. Getting in and getting on is what we talk about, which is why helping future leaders to think differently is critical to creating a fairer workplace. We continue to challenge leadership thinking, as seeing talent differently is the key to a new and brighter future for everyone. Let's do more. This #MLKDay, we’re honored to share a client project with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and highlight the words of their President & CEO, La June Montgomery-Tabron, who challenges us to ask: Who carries forward Dr. King’s vision today? Through initiatives like SCoRE (Solidarity Council on Racial Equity), the W.K. Kellogg Foundation is bringing together global leaders to drive systemic change and create a more equitable future. They invite us to reimagine the power of Dr. King’s vision—not in a single individual, but in the collective efforts of individuals and organizations committed to advancing equity and justice. If you’d like to learn more about the work that SCoRE is doing, you can visit www.wkkf.org/score/ . #MLKDay #RacialEquity #SocialJustice #SocialImpact

I think resource scarcity is a reality for most policing and law enforcement agencies that I have connected with. I don’t recall hearing anyone say, yeah, I’ve got too many officers and non-sworn professional employees. This list popped up for me on managing resource scarcity: - Conduct Resource Audit - Implement Optimization Practices - Explore Alternative Sources - Invest in Innovation - Adopt Sustainability Practices - Manage Risks I like that list. One thing that is missing for me is this; prioritization. What work must we do, what work should we do, and what work is nice to do. When agencies move into times of resource scarcity, be it increases in workloads, recruitment challenges, or changes in expectations, it strains work areas. In policing, we don’t made widgets, we are primarily a human service. Our product is people providing services. When that resource becomes scarce, we need to be thoughtful in managing the same, re-affirming our organizationally priorities, and ensuring alignment across work areas. I have appreciated the learnings from Jim Collins, and one that comes to mind for me is BHAGs – pushing boundaries and challenging the organization. It’s time to innovate and find efficiencies. Stay safe out there.

Reflecting on the year 2024 and moving into 2025, I cant help but look back and think of our most important resource that is often overlooked: relationships. One of the things I learned most playing sports and always being a part of a team was how much each of us had to rely on one another in order to have success. In football, for example, if the lineman doesn't do their job, the skill position cannot do their job, and the whole play is broken. However, a systematic, teamwork approach manifests itself into a successful play when everyone plays their vital role. It's really a beautiful thing to see. This past year, our Behavioral Health department has accomplished much with so many people bought in to the work we're doing. But; I am constantly reminded of just how each individual part plays a vital role into the overall whole of our accomplishments. Volumes don't grow if our quality department isn't moving our needle. Targets aren't reached without insight from finance. Employee satisfaction doesn't happen without HR; and the list goes on. Here's to 2025 and making a more positive impact on Eastern Kentucky. And better yet, with our best resource: the people to do it with! Happy New Year! Jamie Couch, EMBA, CRHCP Anita Cornett TAWNYA BROCK Jennifer Lyons, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC

🚨 Time for a reality check: Outdated administrative processes don’t just waste time—they undermine the very foundation of effective policing. Every minute an officer spends wrestling with inefficiencies is a minute lost to community policing, mentorship, or training. The cost of sticking to "how it’s always been done" is far greater than we realize: 📉 Decreased officer morale 📚 Reduced training effectiveness 🤝 Missed mentorship opportunities 🌍 Limited community engagement ⚠️ Increased operational risks Tradition has its place, but not at the expense of progress. If the status quo is holding your agency back, it’s time to ask: Is it worth the price we’re paying? 👀 How is your organization addressing outdated practices to improve efficiency and engagement? #PolicingReform #LawEnforcement #ChangeManagement #Leadership #PublicSafety #FirstResponders
