Universität Rostock was delighted to welcome #EUCONEXUS colleagues from across Europe for an in-person meeting of the team working on all opportunities for #PhD students. The two-day meeting took place in the City of Rostock during the same time as the 2024 PhD Summer School.   The overarching theme of the meeting was how to better support researchers of the European University alliance and encourage cooperation to find solutions to many of the challenges included under the topic of Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability. The agenda included ➡ the PhD Summer School at La Rochelle University in 2025, ➡ the future of cotutelles and potential double degrees for PhDs, ➡ the upcoming EENVIRO Research Conference hosted by the UTCB from 29-31 October 2024, ➡ PhD Week & PhD Open Courses and ➡ further actions to boost doctoral research and cooperation.   Did you know EU-CONEXUS, the European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability, offered all these opportunities for PhD students and researchers? The results of these latest grants from the ERC clearly illustrate that the programme is less accessible to applicants from countries with lower R&I intenstiy levels. Its is demonstrably evident that the current funding distribution is highly skewed towards more advanced Member States and a revision is necessary to promote inclusivity and excellence across all countries. The EU's next framework programme should introduce specific schemes for Widening countries, ensuring that researchers can participate fully and also benefit from this prestigious programme.

The Université Côte d'Azur (UniCA) IMAgein project has been awarded funding under the prestigious Erasmus Mundus program as part of the EMJM 2024 call for proposals! This innovative two-year international master's program in Ageing Biology will enhance the Ulysseus European University academic offer, providing high-quality, multidisciplinary training in the biology of aging. Starting in the 2025 academic year, this program will be delivered by a consortium of five leading European institutions: UniCA (France), Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), the Universität zu Köln (Germany), the Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal), and Sorbonne Universités (France). Over six years (2024-2030), the program will train the next generation of scientists, researchers, and professionals to address the challenges of aging populations. Each cohort will include 25 outstanding international students, with scholarships available through a competitive process. Supported by Ulysseus European University, research centers, and university hospitals, the IMAgein program emphasizes international mobility and professional development. This robust network ensures students gain advanced knowledge and skills through diverse partner institutions, preparing them to become leaders in aging biology research and industry. Being part of this program is incredible. Events like this are incredible. 🚀 The multi-disciplinary (MD) events organized by the people at PhD in Sustainable Development and Climate Change | PhD SDC are dedicated to explore what happens when scientists with quite different backgrounds get together and discuss about topics related to climate change and sustainable development, as well as other general ones. Different mindsets provide different perspectives, and this is what I appreciate the most. 🌐 Furthermore, this time it has been different for me and other 16 of my colleagues. We were given the chance to take the lead. We have planned and organized in advance a series of peer-to-peer activities, for a total of 8h. 📚 Needless to say, the personal growth out of it was enormous. It was a complete step out of the comfort zone, to end up coordinating groups of 20+ people. It was demanding, both in terms of physical and mental energies. It has been the first time for us making something similar to happen, and we loved it. The result was a cloud of young scientists interacting to produce something.
