Back in the cold here in the UK and reflecting on a great event. My key take aways....... Day 1 looked at the PV module supply chain and highlighted that the industry is now very much in a manufacturing down turn following its production peak in 2023. It’s the second such ‘supply glut’ in the industry’s history (previously in 2012), which has pushed prices to an all-time low. It is expected that production will begin recovery in 2026 where it is forecast to hit 1TW annual production, with prices predicted to remain at todays levels. TOPCon and PERC are now the dominant technology, where TOPCon has overall and growing dominance. Global module production is now almost entirely dominated by Chinese manufacturers. Supplier inventory levels remain very high in Europe due to falling installation rates, where supply is clearly outstripping demand. Price pressure on the manufacturers is catalysing innovation to increase module performance as well as reduce materials cost. This is manifesting in production quality risks and is of increasing concern to buyers. What struck me as a service provider across thousands of operational assets, with a window into the operational reality of our aging asset fleet, was the effort and investment going in to continually squeeze the individual module performance by decimals of percentage points, yet in my mind the biggest yield prize for the industry is to improve quality and the operations of solar plants. Incremental performance gains achieved in module technological advances pale into insignificance compared to the daily operational losses we are experiencing as an industry. Day 2 of the conference focused on the buyer side of PV modules. Large diversity in module materials supply and manufacturing is a challenge to buyers who are concerned about use of forced labour and general supply chain ethical standards. This is leading to an increased need in supply chain audits and robust traceability records. Steven Xuereb of Kiwa PI Berlin presented the challenges associated with this increasing need from buyers and how they are providing supply chain audit services starting with the verification of the raw quartz through to the ingot, wafer, cell and module. A question was posed regarding the solar asset secondary market, and how sellers need to be able to evidence that ESG standards were met in the component supply when the asset was originally constructed, something the industry has been incredibly poor at doing. Whilst travelling back from the event I reflected on this growing requirement as the industry matures and it clearly underlines the importance of continuous and seamless digital record keeping throughout the asset lifecycle. Above's ‘digital twin’ platform, SolarGain, is being used by our clients for many purposes, this growing need is another one to add to the list. #solar #digital #conditionmonitoring
Above's CEO, Will Hitchcock, is attending PV Module Tech in Malaga today and tomorrow, joined by Steven Xuereb from Kiwa PI Berlin. If you’re at the event, why not stop by and chat with them about module condition monitoring? #pvmoduletech #powerfromdata #kiwa #piberlin #above

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗜𝗢𝗚𝗔𝗦 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀? Participants of an international workshop taking place today under the beautiful scenery of Hight Tatras in Poprad (Slovakia) are looking for the answers. 🔌 They are exploring also the ways how to generate alternative revenue incomes via innovative solutions out of electricity production. 🌟 Inspiring success stories of biogas productions from Slovakia, Italy, Denmark, the Czech Republic and other European countries are here to help, too. 🚌 Since it is much better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times, the attendees are heading to Poprad-Matejovce biogas plant in the afternoon. 🔥 Here they will see one of the examples of efficient use of produced thermal energy in Slovakia. The energy obtained from renewable sources supplies heat to 1,000 households, 384 apartments nearby. As well as a kindergarten and a primary school. We are organising the event thanks to the EU funded ALFA Project. #biogas #workshop #ALFAproject #electricity_production #CatchUsIfYouCan Q-PLAN INTERNATIONAL | APRE - Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea | AzzeroCO2 | Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) | Sustainable Innovations (SIE) | White Research | Food & Bio Cluster Denmark | European Biogas Association
