The ocean and coastal ecosystems are vital to both tourism and global food systems. By adopting a blue foods strategy, we can drive meaningful positive change for people, communities, and the planet. Here’s how: 🔵 Responsible Tourism: Blue foods like fresh seafood, shellfish, and seaweed enhance the tourism experience with low-carbon, locally-sourced dishes, while safeguarding marine ecosystems. 🔵 Environmental & Economic Resilience: Blue foods strengthen biodiversity, food security, and climate resilience by reducing dependence on land-based agriculture and supporting sustainable food systems worldwide. 🔵 Empowering Local Communities: Blue foods support the livelihoods of millions, particularly through small-scale fisheries and aquaculture, fostering local economic and social prosperity while promoting responsible practices. At Wave of Change, we aspire to lead a transformational blue foods strategy. By transitioning from traditional seafood sources to responsibly-sourced alternatives, we aim to protect ocean health and promote responsible consumption practices. #BlueFoods #ResponsibleTourism #WaveofChange

There’s nothing like a virtuous cycle for driving change above and below the water! 🌊 Our State of the Water Report demonstrates that greater availability of a wider variety of certified sustainable seafood drives increased consumer demand and, in turn, more fisheries to aspire to the blue MSC ecolabel. 📈 There have been 146 improvements to UK and Irish fishing practices since 2001: in terms of outcomes – that means healthier stocks and reduced impacts on the wider marine environment. 🎣 But there’s no time for complacency, especially when seas are facing new challenges due to climate change. 🐟 To ensure long-term security for species as diverse as Thames cockles, Shetland brown crab and Cornish sardines, we need to increase the collaboration with fishers, conservationists and business, and consumers to continue demanding ecolabel seafood on their plates. 💙 Read more about the seafood sustainability success story of the last 20 years and our plans to make sure there is fish forever. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3KY5iZD #sustainablefishing #sustainableseafood #fisheriesmanagement #ukfisheries #irishfisheries #sustainability

Ocean Day! Let's honor the beauty and significance of our oceans, which cover over 70% of our planet and are vital to our ecosystem, climate, and livelihoods. As we celebrate, it’s essential to reflect on the sustainable practices that can help protect these precious waters. Sustainability practices—such as responsible fishing, reducing plastic use, and supporting marine protected areas—play a crucial role in preserving ocean health. By making conscious choices, we can reduce pollution, restore marine biodiversity, and support the resilience of ocean ecosystems. Integrating frameworks like the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is a powerful step toward achieving sustainability. The MSC promotes sustainable fishing practices by certifying fisheries that meet rigorous environmental standards, ensuring that fish populations remain healthy and ecosystems are protected. Meanwhile, the ASC focuses on responsible aquaculture, advocating for environmentally friendly farming practices that minimize impacts on wild fish stocks and habitats. Together, these councils help consumers make informed choices, supporting fisheries and farms that prioritize sustainability. By choosing MSC and ASC certified products, we can drive demand for practices that safeguard our oceans for future generations. Let’s celebrate our oceans by committing to sustainability and supporting initiatives that protect marine life. Every action counts—together, #we can make waves of change! #Happy Ocean! 🌊💙 #complex but not #complicated Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Blue Economy CRC Judy Kepher-Gona Sustainable Travel & Tourism Africa travel and tourism

How is the food industry working to protect freshwater #ecosystems? 💧 The economic value of water and freshwater ecosystems is immense - at approximately $58 trillion annually. However, freshwater is increasingly in short supply and the $6 trillion food and beverage industry is at the center of this problem. In a recent article for GreenBiz Group, Kirsten James writes on the steps some food companies are taking to reduce their impacts on freshwater ecosystems, namely: 🌎 Sourcing ingredients sustainably, working with suppliers on sustainable agricultural practices that can help reduce the impacts that raising food and animals has on water resources and ecosystems. 🌎 Setting targets aimed specifically at protecting or restoring ecosystems supporting freshwater supplies and aquatic biodiversity. 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gTRqMjkb

At High Tide Seaweed, we believe in creating snacks that not only taste incredible, but are also taking action to protect and sustainable manage our marine ecosystems, leading to a more biodiverse future. Our seaweed-powered snack bar is a prime example of this philosophy. But, why seaweed? ... 🌱 Minimal Resource Use: Seaweed doesn't require freshwater, arable land, or fertilisers to grow. It thrives in the waters of our oceans, using sunlight and nutrients present in the seawater. 🐠 Encourages Marine Biodiversity: Responsibly managed seaweed farms can provide a habitat for marine life, offering refuge and breeding grounds for various marine species and contributing to the overall health and biodiversity of marine ecosystems. 🌊 Lungs Of The Sea: Nearly two thirds of all oxygen on Earth is produced by seaweeds and other aquatic plants like phytoplankton and seagrasses. This makes seaweeds incredibly important for the oxygenation of the air we breathe! Our journey with High Tide Seaweed proves that delicious tasting snacks truly can be better-for-you and kinder-to-the-planet. Contact us if you are ready to snack sustainably and live adventurously.
