Honored to be a part of the first-ever COP day dedicated to tourism from Iberostar Group. During our discussions, Erika Harms, JD/MBA emphasized the urgent need to accelerate climate action and strengthen commitments to mitigation and adaptation within our industry. As proud signatories of the Glasgow Declaration, we stand behind tourism's collective goal to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero before 2050. At Iberostar, we're leading the way with our decarbonization roadmap, launched at COP27, and our ambitious commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030. This includes reducing scope 1 & 2 emissions by 85% and scope 3 emissions by 50%. A heartfelt thank you to UN Tourism for hosting this session and to fellow panelists Dr. Gunay Bayramova, Heitor Kadri, Shannon Guihan, and Amy L.. Together, we can step up move the needle on climate action. #COP29 #SustainableTourism #ClimateAction

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 🌎💭 As the world came together to address the pressing realities of climate change, COP29 Azerbaijan marked an important moment for the travel and tourism industry. Voices from across the globe united to discuss ambitious climate action commitments tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities within the sector, and these commitments signal a new chapter of ambition and accountability for us all. Travalyst was privileged to stand among the voices at COP29, and as we come away with a renewed sense of optimism, we share our reflections on the commitments made within the COP29 Declaration on Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism: 🚃 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 To achieve the Declaration’s call for effective mitigation measures through promoting low and zero-emissions transportation options, Travalyst would welcome more consistent global tourism emissions data. Alignment of the criteria underpinning CO2e methodology for transport emission calculations at a global level, backed by all relevant stakeholders, could serve as reliable data points globally. The Travalyst coalition has already demonstrated that a collaborative approach to such data is possible at scale, having aligned its partners behind a single method to estimate flight emissions, resulting in this data appearing in over 65 billion flight searches. 👥 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 The Declaration acknowledges that effective climate action requires collaborative efforts at local, national, regional, and global levels. Travalyst echoes this sentiment and advocates for a convergence of frameworks across governments globally. The severity and scale of the challenge we face requires true collective action across private, public and not-for-profit sectors, with a degree of collaboration never before seen. Travalyst is an independently governed not-for-profit answerable solely to the planet, and thus we are uniquely positioned to coordinate system-wide collaboration and catalyse change. 📃𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗴𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Travalyst fully supports the more active participation of national governments by endorsing the #GlasgowDeclaration, recalled in the COP29 Declaration as a pivotal Global Climate Action Initiative. Over 850 organisations globally have become signatories and, as a founding signatory, we hope to see that rise. Travalyst stands ready to support the implementation of the COP29 Declaration’s vision. Together, we can ensure that tourism not only adapts to the challenges of climate change but also thrives as a resilient and sustainable force for good. #ChangeTravelForGood #COP29 #Travelandtourism #Travalyst #ClimateAction #TourismDay #ClimateActionTourism

Today, COP29 in Baku saw historic moments and critical debates around the interconnected themes of urbanization, transport, and tourism. #Tourism was formally on the agenda for the first time with the launch of the Baku Declaration on Enhanced Climate Action in Tourism. This milestone recognized the sector’s dual role as a contributor to and victim of climate change, highlighting its potential to drive sustainability and resilience. Urbanization and transport discussions showcased innovative solutions, from electric vehicles to green infrastructure, while the Maldives’ passionate plea to keep 1.5°C alive reminded us of what’s at stake. However, frustration over inadequate climate finance pledges persisted, with developing nations united in their demand for $1.3 trillion annually. Amid challenges, the day underscored one truth: action now is non-negotiable. 👉 https://lnkd.in/grSfNVDM #FINNonCOP #FINNonCOP29 #COP29 #ClimateAction #ClimateJustice FINN Partners UK

During the third day of the second week of COP29 Azerbaijan , I had the pleasure to assist to an event organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in which a group of experts discussed what is next from the tourism sector in order to fight against climate change and achieve SDG’s goals. The panel of experts was moderated by Patricia Espinosa Cantellano who is the former UNFCCC Executive Secretary, who is of course and expert on climate change and the discussion versed on how since COP26 Glasgow, tourism is consider as a relevant practice to be included in the efforts against climate change. In order to sucess, it is mandatory that private and public sectors in all levels work together, in order to help mitigate but also carry out all necesary changes in order to shift into a more resilience sector that will be prepare for adaptation. Spain was invited to discuss as the second country with more tourists in the world. Director General, Spanish Climate Change Office of the Ministry for the Ecologic Transition and Demographic Challenge, pointed out that for mitigation, countries must work on the social aspects as well as in all the supply chain but without forgetting to prepare for adaptation. It is important that each country review its vulnerabilities in order be prepare for crisis and be more resilient, taking always into consideration the environmental solutions or as what we called the “environmental services”. In addition it is important to have an umbrella planning that covers transversally all sectors such as renewables, circular economy, amongst others, and for achieving it, public budgeting is necessary. This can only be implemented when are focussing on the valuable elements and that is why it is so relevant to have all the data in place. There are amazing efforts of collecting data such as the information collected by Travalyst which is imperfect but can be perfected and it is a first step in order to start making improvements. Finally, the representative of Saudi Arabia pointed out that it is necessary to focuss not only in growth but also in balance, which is the way we should see the near future of the tourism sector globally.

To limit global warming, the priority is to reduce carbon emissions. However, for the remaining emissions, we have to find other ways to remove them. Today, relying on nature is the only viable way to capture carbon at scale from the atmosphere. That’s why we’re pleased to announce that we’re supporting two long-term reforestation projects in Panama and Indonesia. Both were selected for their high quality and transparency, and also bring social and biodiversity benefits to local communities in regions where Julius Baer has long been active in. The projects, along with our partnership with SWISS and Lufthansa Group to purchase sustainable aviation fuel, are funded by proceeds from our internal carbon price on air travel. This was introduced to encourage more conscious travelling and help achieve our goal of reducing business travel emissions by 30% by 2025. ➡️ Learn more about our decarbonisation initiatives and download the 2023 Sustainability Report here: https://ow.ly/S83q50QVjeM #sustainability #CompanyInsights
