I often find myself sharing my journey with other professionals when they ask, "Why did you leave a stable job at Deloitte that so many aspire to? Was it an easy decision?”
Here’s my story, and hope there is aspiration for some:
* In 1996, I launched my first e-commerce startup in Pakistan, when the internet was barely introduced.
* During my master's at The University of Sheffield, I assembled and sold desktops.
* My first week in the US, I found out I no longer had a job.
* In 2003, I started at a small firm in Houston.
* In 2004, I joined Deloitte as an analyst, with the goal of becoming a Partner/Managing Director (PMD).
* In 2007, I launched a app development startup called Traxcel.
* Also a HealthTech startup to create human avatars, now known as digital twins.
* Same year I separated from all ventures to focus solely on my career and after 14 years, I was admitted as a Deloitte PMD.
* In 2020, I wanted to return to what I started in 2007, now known as traxccel, but COVID-19 introduced many uncertainties.
* I officially left Deloitte in 2021 and took the CEO role at traxccel in 2022 and in just two years grew our client base and headcount by 200% year-over-year.
What are the key takeaways from my story? Life is unpredictable, non-linear, and there is no perfect timing.
To navigate it successfully, one needs:
* The courage to step out of our comfort zone.
* The commitment to our goals and values.
* The capability to stay relevant.
* The curiosity to create new possibilities.
* The confidence to trust our judgment.
In short, I’ve always had the a passion to build a lasting legacy.
Everyone is at a different stage in their life, and you know best if you are at that point to take the plunge...but if you are passionate about something, better be prepared to embrace the turbulence.
