As a convener and the host of Kakamega Community of Practice Network(KCoP), we were privileged today to lead the members of the network at a national learning forum organized by our partner Kenya Community Development Foundation to provide a platform for CoPs from six Counties in Kenya to learn from each on various areas such as operations, advocacy work, advancing policy issues, organisational development etc. We look forward to an interactive 2 days of engagement #CapacityBuilding

In Busia County, the Giving for Change Programme has successfully partnered with Dhamira Moja CBO to establish the Busia Community of Practice (COP), a platform for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to collaborate on development issues. Key achievements include training 15 organizations on budget advocacy, leading to impactful memos on county budget documents that influenced government decisions. The COP has empowered local organizations to contribute to important policy discussions, including on gender, child protection, and disaster management, thereby driving meaningful community development. New article with Aaron Brusseel and Peter Raeymaeckers in Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. We find, based on a vignette experiment, that local policy makers are open for input by advocacy organisations when designing poverty alleviation policies. Especially when these advocacy organisations apply direct and professional tactics. This nuances as least partly the primacy of politics assumption (according to which politicians are increasingly averse to societal input in the policy making process). Snoop is excited because I just shared my latest article, "From Firefighting to Strategy: How NGOs Can Support Policy Making," published in the Apolitical community! 🥳🤩💁🏽♀️ It's been a journey from the public sector to NGO work, and I'm thrilled to share insights from both sides. In the article, I explore the vital role NGOs can play in helping governments develop data-driven, ground-up policies, and how positive advocacy can create stronger partnerships for long-term impact.
