I met with 4 Bihar startups last week as part of this "mentoring" payback. Another 5 startups had sent in their pitch deck / sought time but since they were not yet in the market for at least 6 months, we did not select them. We will try to spend some 1:1 time virtually with them. #1 - Creators Mind : Gandharv has built this from ground up, from Purnea into a 30+ man team offering teachers, educators a digitalisation platform for all their tasks - website, app, online courses, videos, quizzes, test series etc. Their core challenge is "tech" stability and development. Mithila Stack could help here. Advised him to invest some funds into tech platform and venture into national markets with his platform offering. #2 - Skill Darpan : Dayanand is struggling with topline challenges. While he has invested a lot into regional language programming course content development, there are few takers for that. Advised him to offer full stack training with internship and hands-on work experience; leading to jobs. With HCLTech opening up in Patna there will be a need for quality talent availability. #3 - Jiffit Technology Pvt Ltd : Syed Hizqeel has grown the business into a multi-city offering over last 2 years and is looking to scale the services across residential societies. I felt that the core audience & PMF are yet to be discovered and advised him to research with his current customer base so that a growth program could be designed. #4 - <Stealth Mode> : A strong "Pen Test" service team that was looking at moving to consulting / training as its growth plans. Did not qualify as per the 6-month criterion but was strongly recommended. I told them to stick to their core competence and look at offering high-value Pen-Testing / Security Audit for enterprises / exports and build an IT services team out of Patna. What would you advise? 🚀 From Drip Capital to Rapido – Indian Startups Raised $421.29 Mn This Week🚀 This week 26 Indian startups raised $421.29 Mn, which includes 4 growth stage and 16 early-stage deals while 6 early-stage startups kept the transaction details undisclosed. Regarding the city-wise number of funding deals, Bengaluru-based startups led with 10 deals followed by Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune, and Raisen. During the week, Seed funding deals are on top with 11 deals followed by 5 Series A, 2 pre-Series A, 2 pre-Seed, and 1 Series E deal and more. On a weekly basis, startup funding slipped 14% to $421.29 million as compared to around $490.32 million raised during the previous week. Two startup-focused funds launched this week namely AgriSure and VentureSoul Partners. StartupTN: A Birthplace for Innovation and Ideas❤️🔥 I recently had the privilege to meet Sir Sivarajah Ramanathan, Mission Director and CEO of StartupTN, who participated in the Founder Meetup organized by #WeWorkLabs at their newly launched Chennai facility. During the panel discussion "Building Global Champions from Tamil Nadu," alongside Arvind Radhakrishnan sir CFA, WeWork Labs; Dhanush Ram sir from Speciale Invest; Kuppulakshmi Krishnamoorthy ma'am, Global Head, Zoho for Startups, Sivarajah sir shared his vision to establish Tamil Nadu as a top 20 startup destination globally. He highlighted the Government of Tamil Nadu's initiatives and emphasized the importance of collaboration in creating a cohesive ecosystem. After the event, I got the Oppurtunity to interact with him: One key question I raised was: Is startup hype a scam? We discussed the fate of edtech startups like Byju's and BlueLearn, which initially created significant buzz but ultimately faced bankruptcy, resulting in losses for investors, customers, and employees. Sivarajah sir highlighted that the "startup hype" phenomenon can often be misleading, creating an illusion of success rather than actual market value. A key point he made was that a good startup shouldn't focus on short-term goals or temporary happiness but rather on long-term success. Quality is greater than quantity. India doesn't need more startups; it needs the best startups—ones that bring real value to investors and contribute positively to the country's development in every aspect. This opportunity provided me with a profound experience in my entrepreneurial journey. His feedback on my ideas has given me the direction to refine and scale them to greater heights.
