Today is #WorldKindnessDay. A day to highlight highlights the importance of compassion, empathy, and kindness. Life is a struggle and heavy for many right now. A study done in 11 Canadian cities found that the unhoused population increased by 40% between February 2020 and October 2023. It is estimated that 10% of unhoused people have pets, usually medium or large-sized dogs. With so many people struggling, it can be hard to find hope. But, every act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a huge difference. What can you do? 🏡 Donate to reputable organizations that shelter people with pets or those fleeing domestic violence with pets 🥣 Donate cat and dog bowls, blankets, basic equipment, or toys to these organizations 🍽️ Donate cat and dog food to pet food banks 🧡 Volunteer You can see several of these organizations on our #FridayFeature! Are you an organization that helps unhoused people with pets? Contact us to be added to our directory or to be featured on our socials. Every little bit of kindness goes a long way. #WorldKindnessDay2024 #WelfareForAnimals #PetFoodBanks

After arriving at our accommodation, the first stop on our Creative Green Adventure was a last-minute visit to a local dog shelter. We were invited by AIMM – Marine Environment Research Association’s cook, Bartosz, who volunteers there. Tiny Shelter Albufeira is a small dog shelter run by Isabel Searle and her team of volunteers. They’re currently caring for nearly 90 dogs, each with their own heartbreaking but hopeful stories. Isabel showed us around, introducing us to many of the dogs and sharing how they came to the shelter. Because of their limited space and resources (they don’t receive any support from local councils or the government), they can only respond to the most severe cases of abuse and neglect. It’s tough, but they’re doing such incredible work with what they have. During our visit, we donated some food, kindly provided by Beco, and we’re hoping to organise more regular support from brand sponsors. Spending time with the dogs was so emotional – most loved the company, but some were still too nervous around us because of their past. I just wish we could have stayed longer! If you’re inspired, remember there’s probably a shelter near you that could use some love. Donating your time, money, or supplies makes a huge difference to shelters like Tiny Shelter. And if you’re thinking about getting a pet, please adopt, don’t shop! If you’d like to support Tiny Shelter specifically, check out their Instagram page below to donate or find out more. #adoptdontshop #animalshelter #volunteering

Giving Tuesday is December 3. Through small acts of generosity, we can change our society and change our world. It starts with you. Giving Tuesday is a great day to commit to giving kindness! Follow along during the next few weeks as we suggest a few ways to give back on #GivingTuesday. #cureCADASIL #CADASIL #raredisease 1. Volunteer to foster or walk dogs at your local animal shelter. 2. Beautify your neighborhood by planting flowers or organizing a cleanup effort. 3. Pay for the coffee or meal of the person behind you in line at a cafe or restaurant. 4. Shovel snow for a senior or someone who needs assistance. 5. Make extra food (like chili or soup) and offer some to a neighbor. 6. Visit a new neighborhood and strike up a conversation with someone different from you. Find common ground. 7. Plan a neighborhood block party to help everyone get to know each other. 8. Bring popsicles to a park on a hot day and share with families or children. 9. Donate an old cellphone to someone experiencing homelessness—having a phone can be a vital resource. 10. Donate to cureCADASIL to support our on-going research.

Dogs EVERYWHERE should have the chance for a good life. To have access to food, water, and shelter, but also, to be able to express themselves, run, play, jump, and stretch. On World Dog Day, we urge you to find it in your heart to donate to the dogs that need it most. Your donations go directly to our programs in underserved communities worldwide. ➡️ Donate $25 to save a stray that would otherwise have a life expectancy of 1-3 years. ➡️ Donate $50 to spay or neuter 2 animals, preventing dozens more future strays. ➡️ Donate $150 to feed 10 former stray dogs for a month at our partner shelters. ➡️ Donate $250 to pay a month's salary of an animal shelter caretaker in Nicaragua. Will you help end the suffering of animals worldwide? Donate at the link in our bio or Globalystrays.org/donate 🌎🐾💙 #globalstrays #animalwelfare #WorldDogDay
