BrandPipe Ltd is joining a growing list of pioneering UK employers voluntarily offering a 4-day working week to all its employees, where it will reduce working time to 32 hours including breaks with no reduction in pay, rather than creating fewer working days with longer shifts. The 6-month trial begins today, Monday 04 November 2024. It is being run by the 4 Day Week Campaign, flexible working consultancy Timewise, with research support from University of Cambridge, Boston College and The Autonomy Institute. The results, including those of BrandPipe will be presented to the new Labour Government in Summer 2025.
Co-Founder and CEO Geoff Slaughter had this to say about the initiative:
“We are impatient to implement our 4-day week at BrandPipe and view it as an essential evolution to working practice. Bowls of fruit and relaxing spaces are well-intentioned sticking plasters for employee mental wellbeing, but we can do more. A properly coordinated campaign of working-time reduction is a proven strategy to improve wellness, productivity, focus, reducing burnout and provides us a compelling offering for recruitment.”
Co-Founder and CTO Theo Radu said:
“Employee burnout is a real risk in our industry, software engineering, like many others. We find our best work comes from when we are all well rested and have been able to dedicate time to our families and other life priorities. The 4-day week is an initiative that BrandPipe believes in, and we look forward to the meaningful positive impact it will have on our team, their families and the work we do for our customers.”
Joe Ryle, Director of the 4 Day Week Campaign, said:
"We don't have to just imagine a four-day week anymore - because it's already a reality for hundreds of businesses and tens of thousands of workers in the UK. With 50% more free time and no loss in pay, a four-day week gives people the freedom to live happier, more fulfilling lives.
We look forward to presenting the results of this latest trial to the new Labour Government next summer.”
