What Do You Think Makes High-Quality Kelp Seed? High-quality seed is the foundation of successful in-ocean kelp cultivation. Factors like density, plant health, and genetic diversity come to mind—but we know there is more to the story. We want to hear from YOU! Kelp growers, what seed qualities are most important for your cultivation success? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below! Let's build a conversation around what truly defines "good kelp seed".

To enhance global awareness about #cropdiversity, the Crop Trust teamed up with Minerva University through the Civic Projects initiative. Over three months, students Ariadna Barbier Perez and Salome Gvirjishvili worked with Crop Trust experts to create an infographic titled "Turning Ancient Grains Into Tomorrow's Harvests." New West Genetics offers quality assured hemp seed genetics. Our hemp seed lots pass a series of quality checks to assure it performs at its best on your farm. After the hard work of growing and harvesting a uniform and true-to-type seed crop, it is important that seed is dried down to a stable moisture. In a dry climate, this can be done by swathing, in a wetter climate, in a drying bin. Next the seed is cleaned and conditioned. Here you see a seed lot after the cleaning line. First the fanning mill separates out all the foreign material from the seed. Then a gravity table separates seed by weight. A clean seed lot at a stable moisture will keep its high quality germ rates for longer. Success Starts at the Seed. #hempgenetics #hempseed #seedquality #seedcleaning #shakertable #gravitytable

Here are a few simple questions I pose for entities like Bayer, Seed Organizations, etc. Would these organizations offer transparency of where their genetic material or seed collections come from such as points of origin? The second would companies like #Bayer support European patent initiatives like those in Europe who are not allowed to receive a patent for what is commonly called "Native Traits." Traits such as drought resistance strands of corn like those found at Hopi. The last but most important question is, "What have the same organizations previously mentioned provided to the descendent communities who have propagated crops in their locations for millennia?"

👨🎓📌The Polish wheat pool. ➡️The World Wheat Book. A History of Wheat Plant Breeding - by H. J. Czembor, J. H. Czembor, I. Menke-Milczarek, J. Zimny ➡️ #plantbreeding #hodowlaroślin #wheat #pszenica #triticum #landraces #cultivars #varieties #Poland #genebank #germplasm #agrobiodiversity #food #foodsecurity The creation of new varieties of wheat in the twentieth century has resulted from a detailed understanding of genetics combined with the practical experience of breeders throughout the world. This has been reinforced through evolving technologies with increased interaction with fertilizers, mechanisation and modern fungicides and herbicides superseding more primitive techniques. It therefore seems timely to compile a comprehensive history of wheat across all its main areas of production. New laboratory techniques such as in vitro culture, molecular biology, and genomics, now enable the development of a greater level of understanding of the complexities of the diversity, structure and function of the genetics of wheat.

#CRISPRCas9 has been used to enhance domestication traits of ground cherry (Physalis grisea), addressing its agronomically unfavorable traits to boost its utilization. The ground cherry is an underutilized but nutritious fruit. By targeting genes involved in fruit abscission and pathways that improve resistance to insects, scientists can make ground cherries easier to harvest and more viable for farmers and home gardeners. This research serves as a model for improving other underutilized #fruits. Read more in The New Phytologist Foundation: https://shorturl.at/Ob7Lv

Soybean growers will often keep some seed from their harvest to use as seed for their next crop. Depending on the environmental conditions, the seed can often lose germination efficacy. If you are unsure of the germination percentage of your seed, send some to us and we will test it for you. We can also identify any mycelial growth present to determine if there any seed borne fungi.
